It's not hard to understand the RULE, I just dont understand WHY. I agreed to and have abided by the rules here on DTR, just like many of the other members here but Im still entitled to my opinion and to question why something is a certain way.

I think if you are offended by our RULES, then you should stay off our website, period.

No its supposed to read exactly what I typed otherwise I wouldnt have typed it.
Let me ask you this. Have you ever typed something totaly innocent into a search engine and clicked on a link only to have it bring you to a porn site? I'd be willing to bet you have, I know it's happened to me a couple times and many other people, did I get angry and sue someone? Not hardly. It's a fact of life when on the internet that you WILL run into offensive material. I just think a reasonable way to handle this problem is a properly posted WARNING telling other DTR users what to expect that way they can decide for THEMSELVES whether or not to view such material.
Like I said before if you are offended by WORDS the internet doesnt sound like a good place for you, because no matter what you will run into offensive material, most of the time without warning, period.

Just my $0.02

I have experience on Jack's board long enough that I can comment. I have been in trouble a couple of times on the board and have always found Jack and Top as well as every administrator they choose, to treat you as a friend that they desire to just keep in line.

We at times all have differences of opinion and they keep it from deteriorating to an ugly situation. As far as the morals on the board, I agree, but that said, this is not a democracy, it is their board and will be run the way they want.

A member or guest never has to fear, he can show any post to his wife or children with no chance of the child or wife seeing something questionable. Watching this board grow from its start has been amazing. They must be doing it right for it to grow as it has.

Thanks guys, its a great site for information and friendly banter, doing a great job, don't change a thing.

over 1.4 million hits a day now.
Amazing, to me ..... very impressive growth!
1.4 million page hits maybe, but 1.4 milllion page views, no.... ;)

Lets stick to the facts.....

Here is a good discription for the DTR members to understand the difference between web site hits and web site views:

# Hit - A request for a file from the web server. Available only in log analysis. The number of hits received by a website is frequently cited to assert its popularity, but this number is extremely misleading and dramatically over-estimates popularity. A single web-page typically consists of multiple (often dozens) of discrete files, each of which is counted as a hit as the page is downloaded, so the number of hits is really an arbitrary number more reflective of the complexity of individual pages on the website than the website's actual popularity. The total number of visitors or page views provides a more realistic and accurate assessment of popularity.

# Page View - A request for a file whose type is defined as a page in log analysis. An occurrence of the script being run in page tagging. In log analysis, a single page view may generate multiple hits as all the resources required to view the page (images, .js and .css files) are also requested from the web server.

I have ZERO issues with the rules. And I rarely speak out on this forum. But I have to ask...... Why is DTR a Limited Liability Corporation?

This site may be privately owned. But it is commercially funded....

Ever pay for a server to host a site like this and pay for the bandwidth it uses? It's not cheap, and donations won't cover it fully.

The why is simple and has been explained by the founder many times before. This board was started because the founder was tired of the bickering , flaming and profanity found in allot of other boards on the internet. He wanted a place to talk about trucks without all the other garbage! That's the reason.

You are correct and I agree with you! However, the goal of this site is to provide an atmosphere where you are less likely to have that happen. How do we do that, by controlling what's posted here. It's much harder for a person to get offensive material when they search from a database that's already been filtered.

I just think a reasonable way to handle this problem is a properly posted WARNING telling other DTR users what to expect that way they can decide for THEMSELVES whether or not to view such material.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! The material provided for view on DTR, by it's membership, is supposed to be presented in a "G" rated format. If you want porn, profanity or would like to pick a verbal fight or attack someone via the internet with words, pictures or virtual weapons of mass destruction, go somewhere else. We do not want to offend you by being such a great disappointment to you. A complete copy of our lackluster programing requirements are provided in the "site suggestions" thread or in the "privacy statement" at the bottom of most of our bland pages. Thank you!

Like I said before if you are offended by WORDS the internet doesnt sound like a good place for you, because no matter what you will run into offensive material, most of the time without warning, period.

Just my $0.02
We agree again, but this site does not represent the internet as a whole and will continue to try to provide a cleaner "G" rated format for you to enjoy, or not.

On a side note, whether you agree with the format here or not is of no consequence. The format is what it is, it will remain what it is and that's all there is to it. That's just my $0.02.

Whoa...

I think he might be enjoying your own sentiment there! I have felt great pride seeing signatures like yours, as I am priveleged enough to have my truck, and feel satisfaction that others out there want them, too. I waited for mine, wanting one since I saw the first reviews of the 1st gens, but didn't dream I would own one.

At least I HOPE that is what he is laughing about -- I would be upset too, if it was meant as an attack. I for one am happy you agreed to the terms and are here, as all opinions are welcome, as long as they are maturely expressed!! Post on, good friend!!

Oh...and I hope you get your Dodge CTD soon!! Good luck with your studies. We need good technicians out there!!!

Thanks! The way I interpreted his reply to my sig is as if Im not allowed to have an opinion when I dont even own a CTD yet. What I would really like to do with my studies is work in the high performance area of diesel trucks, I think it would be a great experiance to build and test different ways of makin power.

I don't know for sure just what he meant, but I can assure you the rest of us value your opinion regardless of what you are driving right now ;)

Even if he's drivin' one of these? :D

My comment was made to prove a point, and no it doesnt matter to me whether you have a truck or not. The point I am making here is, everyone has their own opinion, and not everyone else agrees with their opinion, and this where the trouble starts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as they follow the rules of the site that they agreed to when they joined. If the admins were willy nilly and did not do their job and enforce the site rules, this place would be a giant sludge bowl. The admins strive to keep this place clean and in good shape. Personally I feel this is one of the best fourms I have ever been on, and that is because the admins do their job and enforce the rules, and give the site a good reputation. Just think of what this place would be like with no admins, would you want to come here to try and find information on your truck? I frequent another fourm on the internet that has admins that don't enfore the rules of site, and pretty much every thread turns into a bashing room against one another, and not productive comes out of the site, that is pretty much how this place would be if we didn't have the good group of admins that we do. The rules were set in place to be followed and enforced, to keep this site nice, clean, and friendly, which gives it a good reputation, and people obviously feel that they can come here for help. The simple fact is, you agreed to the rules when you joined, just follow them like most of the rest of the people on here, and life would be great for everyone. Why make the admin's job harder by causing trouble? They arnt going to bend of change the rules just for certain people, they have a good set and do a mighty fine job of keeping the site going, so why keep arguing about this?
