Good work Jack getting back what looked like a complete loss there for awhile Now I will sacrifice a chicken on an open fire as a gift to the mighty server god....pass the BBQ sauce please
That was the scariest part, thinking we wouldn't be able to recover any data, and starting out with member number one again. Once the new server is in place, there will be more controls in place to prevent this from happening again. This server will still act as the email server, and possibly the chat server, but the main portion of the site will go onto the new machine. I can't wait to get it in place!

So, what you're saying is that all the work I have done these last 3 days (uploading photos, signature, placing an ad for my truck, which took an hour) is gone.

My post count even went down to 4.

If new server has been purchased, when will you go online with it?

I don't really want to go thru all I went thru these last 3-4 days again if there's a chance for another melt down, ya know.

Thanks!

The new server will go on line as soon as possible, but still likely a week away. Will this happen again? No way to know, the current server has functioned perfectly for 3 years...Hard to say which planets had to line up to cause todays problem.

Sometimes things just happen for no apparent reason, we were fortunate to recover as much as we did as the server crashed while writing the nightly backup, so no backup......

It could have gone down at any other time and not caused the trouble it did. Just one of those things that make you look like this from time to time

I can assure you we have no desire to go through what we went through with this breakdown again either.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. You're worried about 3 days of "work" updating your profile and pictures? Well guess what, I was worried about 5 years worth of work and money going down the tubes, so while normally I would care about your concern... Today, quite honestly, I don't. Especially after spending 10 hours working on this issue. Your one hour for placing an ad is childs play. Feel FREE to place it again.

THANK YOU...THANK YOU...
You guys have become a part of my life.

Did you have the backed up data and no server to run it on, or was alot of the data also corrupted?

Actually, it figures that this machine has been running 3 yrs without a glitch, and it can't go one more week for the new server to be installed. What a bummer!
It's jealous!

Unfortunately, the data was in the process of being corrupted during the backup process, and once it was, the backup process failed. It happened right in the middle of a backup run, and it just happened to be the full backup for the week. It was the perfect storm really.

I wasn't stating that with sarcasm.

The reply I received deserves no comment.

I simply asked that if a new server was in play, when will we get to play with that new server? Then I stated the reason why I asked that question.

Sorry for what happened last night, sorry for the frustrations that have come about from both your working on this issue and the e-mails you have for sure received from other members concerning this.

I can wait a week to re-do what all I worked on in those 3 days. No Biggie, I just didn't want to waste my time here if there was any chance of this happening again. My time on these computers is short, and since I am still on an antiquated dial up, it makes my time even shorter.

Thanks for the FREE board................

Thanks for the FREE classifieds....................

After years of being on discussion boards, I am the type that will go out of my to help better things for the board.

Announce to us when the switch is made, OK. I'll make a decent donation for the NEW server.

Thanks!!

Yep! Ditto. Been there, done that. A totally thankless job which few really know the ins and outs of. Good job, Jack.

Thanks, Jack and everyone else for all you do for this site and it's members. It's greatly appreciated.

I wonder how many new posts by Hoss about Ford owning Cummins that this server crash lost.

Thanks, guys!

I had absolutely nothing planned for my Sunday except to come in to the office and get on the DTR ... and it wasn't there . I was caught without a contingency plan and was found wandering the streets of Stuttgart looking like I had Alzheimers .

The wife was sure glad she was in the States while I was going through withdrawals.

Thanks for getting it back in action, Jack. You da man !!!
