Deleted threads

Why do they just vanish? If it is so offensive have the guy deleting it leave a single post under the original title saying what the problem was. Maybe that would school everybody on the objective/subjective nature of the delete button.

Normally, if there is time, we'll shoot a pm to the thread author but it doesn't happen every time.

Old Mike,

Please shoot me a PM with what thread it was, and I'll get you an answer.

As admins, we delete a lot of threads, edit a lot of posts... so on and so forth. We are pretty good about PM'ing the involved parties, but we don't get to it all the time. 50k members, 10 or so full time mods... there is a lot going on.

Not meant to address a single thread. Most of the deleted ones I was just a reader. It seems I can predict a "thread bermuda triangle" if it really makes me laugh. I applaud you guys for weeding out the site and taking the time to do it. If you kill a thread and leave a single post as to why it would save a bunch of PM's on your part and maybe show the rest of us it is a content, not personality based decision.

True... I see what you are saying... I have tried this before, but I usually end up moving it because, even when it is locked, it will stir the restless natives somewhere else... so we just ditch it.

One small problem with your request here Mike. In order to leave a post in the thread telling what happened, we'd have to close and leave the thread. Like Mark said, if we need to move it, then it's got bigger problems than just editing a post. Sorry, but we're not going to move a thread and start another just to let everyone know why we moved it. We've got too much to do and not enough time. As to our decisions being "personality based", I really don't know what you're trying to say. Whether we like a thread or not, as long as it follows the rules and doesn't conflict with our instructions from the bosses, we leave it.

I was wondering out loud what gets a thread deleted, the singing or the song.

I don't think we can answer this for you Mike....None of us can carry a tune ...well except for Madhat and he can't get past the letter "R" when singing his song.

Usually, we see the direction that things are going, and before we have a 'shouting' match between members about which oil is better, or a fight to the death about who makes the best transmission, we can it.

Other reasons are... we do have a pretty strict 'G' rating here, and like to maintain that.

Hope we're helpin you out here...

Be patient or go directly to 1:20 on the video and hear how the song should be sung. Does anyone think Madhat looks like Big Bird?

ABC Song
