Consistency in restriction

This site is very much against discussing modifications to federal emissions systems. I'd recommend extending that restriction to discussions of street racing also. Members often brag of doing felony speeds; this is something that is just as illegal and quite a bit more deadly than messing with a catalytic converter.

Allowing discussion of illegal racing while restricting discussion of other illegal activities could be interpreted as an endorsement of such things. In all the other automotive forums I participate in, street racing is frowned upon; I'd like to see that same sentiment here. It's highly illegal and dangerous, and I think we're not being the best ambassadors of the diesel community when we talk and brag of doing such things.

Opinions?

We do discourage it and have shut down numerous threads over the years on that subject. Racing needs to be done on the track not the street.

A lot of the street racing stuff is exaggerated, IMO.

But if you read it on the internet, it HAS to be true.

Well, I'm not a really opinionated person but I think if you start shutting down threads with mentions of street racing then what's next. Pretty much any modification from stock is either against the law or against the warranty from the mfrs. Just putting a lift or even bigger tires is illegal. Tinted windows are illegal but lots of people do it. removing the muffler from my truck was illegal. This is a pretty conservative site and lots of members have left over that fact the past couple of years. I think this would just go too far...
Now, members egging another member into a street race, of course, is a bad thing. I can tell you that I've done a lot of street racing in my younger years. I don't really do it anymore but sometimes you find yourself in a position where you just can't not do it. Some of us are just Motorheads and we are never going to change.....

I kind of agree with you HOV but the majority of my small brain disagrees on this subject....

Putting a lift or bigger tires on is NOT illegal. Removing the muffler is NOT illegal in all states. The noise that it causes is. Tinted windows is NOT illegal if kept within legal tint level. Those things might void your warranty, which we could care less about. Voiding warranty and being illegal are two completely different things. We're not cracking down on anything new. Defeating emissions have always been taboo here. It's just been coming up alot more with the new 6.7l emissions. If you don't like it, we can show you the door.

I agree with Dodgezilla. All of the restrictions down the road may discourage ppl from posting. I agree streetracing is very illegal, but I think it should be suggested to ppl not to race illegally and post about it than shut the thread down completely. Its a touchy situation, so I will gladly accept the moderators decision and respect it, even if I don't agree with it.

We're not going crazy here, shutting down threads left and right over stupid little things. Some threads and posts are just blatantly breaking the rules. If it's warranted we'll shut it down. Also if it requires just a warning than we'll do that to. I highly doubt people will quit posting just because they can't discuss illegal activities on this site. That's been a rule since the rules were written. Nothing has changed and we have well over 40,000 members now. I believe your logic is a little flawed.

That's a great attitude there Mr Administrator! Show me the door if you like. Sorry I have an opinion on the subject that you don't agree with....

You're missing the whole point of this thread. The original poster was asking for more consistency by also not allowing other illegal topics...like street racing. He wasn't complaining that too many threads are deleted at all.

If you want to get technical then I think every box/programmer/module out there is also in violation of Federal emissions laws. What about all the talk of billowing black smoke?

The ironic thing is you can buy cat delete pipes in the DTR store.

Dodgezilla, there's no slipepry slope here. It's a matter of our community either encouraging or discouraging street racing. Most car enthusiast boards discourage it, and the motto usually is "take it to the track". I'd like to see more of that here.

If we as a community don't let each other know that it's not good to race on the street, then many of our younger members won't even think twice about it.

The point I disagree with you about is that "sometimes you can't not do it". There's never a time when reckless endangerment of others on public roads is appropriate.
