ATV Vacation?

I am ready to take a little vacation of sorts and I think I would enjoy a trip out of town with my King Quad. I was just wondering where there is to go? I would like to ride some where that has some great scenery as well as possibly some kind of history to it. The only thing I can think of is some old mining towns out west, but I dont know if there is anywhere that allows such trips? Help me out guys, find me a place to go and ride my ATV so I can relax a little bit. It will be just me and possibly my boy Ralph so my options are pretty open as far as time and locations go. Let me know something guys!

I don't know about being historic.........but there are some good riding areas around Mena, Arkansas. Since you are close to Memphis, that wouldn't be to far of a drive for you.

You could check out the Wolf Pen Gap Trails in the National Forest, Lookout MTN, Hawks Overlook and others. There are alot of other riding areas around there and it is legal to ride on the county roads as long as you otherwise follow the law. Some other great places to check out while you are there are Little Missouri Falls and "The Blue Hole". I went there twice this year and had a blast.

A trip to Colorado would probably be even better....but much further away.

I have to suggest Alaska. I am here now and it is very good 4-wheeling.
Montana has plenty of state lands as well.
Alberta, Canada is pretty good, too.
Nevada has some good stuff and is dryer than the ones mentioned above.

I tried to go and find it again, but when I was reading king quad reviews, one place they rode was in West Virginia. 100"s of miles of trails and the city will let you ride on the street to go to the gas station. ATV vacations is their main tourest attration. I will try when more awake to find the article and post link. It's 4:30am and I'm relly tired........

The place in WV to go is Called Hatfield Mccoy trail system and there is plenty of trails. The place i go to up there is www.atvresort.com/ashland%20amenities.html awesome place to ride from 6am-midnight-7days a week.

On the other hand www.durhamtown.com in GA is also a very good place to ride plenty of action on the trails, they also have good food and cabins for rent. if you are into hunting you can also do that down there at the same location. also they have a shooting range, ponds to fish in as well.

and yes in WV you have to buy a permit but you can ride into the remote towns and Dine or gas up!

Thanks guys. Keep them coming. TexasCTD, I am gonna try and find some info on the locations you mentioned and look into them. I want to go to a place that has cabins to rent and stay for a couple or three days. Mountains would be good. My dream would be to head out to Colorado and hit some old mining roads and pass through some of the old mining towns but I dont know if there are any locations to do that at?

I've been thru here a few times in a truck, but ATV's also make the trip. Absoulty beautiful, but take food, water, warm/dry clothes and extra gas. As you can see, you'll go above timber line.

I camped at San Cristibol lake and went over from the Lake City side. There are several camp grounds in Lake City.

That is awsome! Thats the kind of place I want to go. I have heard that you can take logging and mining roads from Silverton to Durango? Is this true? Thats the area I always dreamed of riding in and I dont mind the drive. I deserve a trip like that and since its just me and my dog it cant cost too much I wouldnt think?

I just got a copy of this guide to ATV trails in Central Colorado.

http://www.funtreks.com/index.php?page=book_8

It is a really nice book, with nice maps, photos, and a good description of the trails. I only wish it covered more of the state.

I was so impressed with that book that I just ordered the Moab ATV trail guide from the same author.

If you are thinking farther west (like Oregon) here's the state guide to riding areas. There are contact numbers to order maps for specific areas.

http://atv.prd.state.or.us/images/pdf/atv-map.pdf

If you head this way, PM me if you have questions about specific riding areas here...

Idaho has TONS of public land with thousands of miles of trails and old logging roads. That said, nothing beats Alaska for ATVing.
