does anyone actaully like their job?
does anyone actually like their job?
Ive thought about looking for a new job. just curious to who if anyone actually likes their job. I am union now but I dont have to be at another job. I work for a large railroad but getting tired of living there for not tons of $. If anyone has any input on a good job somewhere im all ears
Well, like Mr. Madhat, I too was a Jarhead for a short time (4 years)...although I absolutly hated evey minut of it. HOWEVER, it was the single best thing I ever did. Now I work for a defense contractor and I test drive a prototype tank that we are developing for the Marine Corps...thats a cool job!
It's not just you, my job stinks. Although the best part is being out in the field instead of in a shop working, another perk is cooking my lunch on the powerchoke and eating outside. Other than that the pay for what they want me to do, be at their beck and call 24/7, can't make dinner plans...or any plans for that matter because on call, definetly not worth the money they pay. Their service truck stinks, whoever set up the utility bed was a moron. No tool boxes, they have thrown in some tiny wally world like boxes that have enough room for wrenches and pliers and that is the extent of tool boxes. The rest are flat shelves, tools bounce around and fall to the bottom you mention it and hope that something gets done. Meanwhile it looks very very unproffessional.
Sorry, rambling on, I just hate cheap companies, especially when they just sold it for something like 6 billion dollars and this "service truck" is the best they could do??? To maintain their equipment??
I'm looking as well, mostly for something near home. I'm tired of driving 65 miles each way. Good luck in your search!!

I love my job, but most wouldn't. I work at a steel mill and it is one of the top 3 paying jobs in the area. I'm 26 and make between 70-100k a year.
The downfall that most people don't like is, I work 6 days, off 2, 7 evenings, off 2, 7 midnights, off 4. Plus I work at least one o/t per week.

I love my job, hate my boss. He is a real

Did I tell you I was self employed?

If you really want to get-a-head in this world find something you like to do and do it very well. Then find a way to do it on your own.

Nail on the head right there. Some jobs are down right terrible, but with proper outlook on things it's not that bad. My job right now isn't great. It's very monotonous. It does have it's benifits though. I spend 3 days in the field and usually get 2-5 days off depending on the schedule. I don't work more than 16 days a month. I do wish I was still working on C-130's. That job was fun.
Part time rancher, part student. The student part SUCKS! The ranching part is terrific though. Been in it for almost 8 years now and have loved every minute of it. My dad is my boss, but that doesnt mean I sit on my butt all day, and he works just as hard as the rest. As for the student part, I know it will be worth it, though Ill probably be doing the same job when I graduate lol. Ranching probably isnt for everyone though. Sometimes I work 8 hour days, sometimes 14 hour days. Those 4 in the morning, car through the fence jobs dont pay overtime either...

Love mine. Granted, it's not for everyone but it is the greatest job in the world IMO. 24 on 48 off, over a month off for vacation, good strong Union, and the pay is not too bad either. As with anything else, it has its downsides also but they are far outweighed by the good.
Then there are perks like this.... Did I mention, Chicks dig firemen?

I don't hate my full time job, but a lot of days I just wish I could go home and not come back. I have never seen an entire work force so LAZY in my entire life. No responsibilty, work ethic, skill or effort at all. Well...about 80% of 'em anyway. If it weren't for the pay, I'd be gone. In two years, I'll be vested in my pension and I may just leave.
Now, my part time job, on the other hand, I absolutely love. I can work as many or as little hours as I want and come in & go at any hour I want, as long as the job gets done. I don't have to punch in, just keep track of my hours. The boss is hardly ever around and he trusts me not to cheat him on hours and I DON'T. My daddy raised me right
. I'm the only mechanic he has, so I run the show and answer to no one but him. He's not a mechanic, so he just tells me what needs to be done and when it needs to be done by. Sometimes it gets hectic, but I like the excitement and I work better under pressure. He wanted to hire me full time, but he can't even come close to what I get at my other job. Even if he could, it wouldn't help cuz I'm too used to two pay checks

Love what i do, the company i do it for isn't the greatest, but then thre are no real good (or good paying) private ems jobs out there. But i hope to go 3rd city service soon. I used to be a GM mechanic, and hated it, work was good but the politics were horrible. Also did a stint on the ranch with randy but that was to get me through school, i liked it but not a career for me, I love being a paramedic, sticking drunks with big needles is fun
