New And Improved CC Passenger Seat Floor Brace
New And Improved CC Passenger Seat Floor Brace
So I noticed a bunch of cracks in the floor pan where the rear of the passenger seat mounting bracket bolts through the floor. Upon further inspection I noticed that Chrysler in it's infinite wisdom decided to spot weld a small rectangular plate under the cab floor pan but NOT tie it into any of the nearby floor braces. Therefore every time the truck hits a bump, the seat bounces and the floor flexes and eventually cracks.
I decided to do something about it. I made a brace out of a piece of 1/8" plate. I cut the spot welds off of the factory bracket, removed it, welded the brace to the cab floor support braces and floor pan. I welded the factory plate to the new brace using the interior seat mount bracket to properly locate factory bracket. Lastly I welded up the holes and cracks, and ground them flat.

For clarification I'm talking about the rear mounting bracket of the FRONT passenger seat. I agree with AJ that the jump seats are pretty useless and won't be going back in.
I'll try to fix the original post for better understanding. It made more sense when I posted it last night but less sense now that I've re-read it.

Passenger seat mount bracket bolted up to properly locate the mount bracket under the floor.
The area in question is where the 3 holes go across bottom of the plate next to the seat strut mount.

Factory bolt plate for the rear mount of the front passenger seat bracket from under the floor pan. The holes in the corners and middle are there so I can spot weld it to the brace I made.
My brace welded to existing cab braces on three sides and the floor pan across the top. The two bigger holes aer where the bolts go through the seat bracket, floor pan, and in to weld nuts on the factory bolt plate.
That's the plan. Is it easier to understand now?
This was a neat little project but I was actually just procrastinating on doing more rust work on the rear cab mounts/floor yet trying to gain a sense of accomplishment.
