Wheels for w250 Cragar Soft 8 Black Wheels

Has anyone tried running these cragar soft 8 wheels on a first gen?

Cragar Soft 8 Black Wheels 3978880 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

Not sure which exact size to order. Trying to get the brodozer wheels that came with my truck off of there!

Also it looks like these might be the same as the cragar. Black Rock Type 8 Series 997 : Black Rock

I'm sitting at stock ride height i should be able to go with a 17 inch rim and 33 inch tire correct?

Open to other suggestions for affordable clean looking rims if anyone has any insight.

a 285/70r17 is ~33" and is what I run on a 17x8" wheel. will fit just fine with stock springs. I would highly recommend the black rock wheels. myself and many others I know have them on our wheeling vehicles and i've seen them punished. they are much better than the cragars.

edit: an 8" wide wheel with 4.5" backspace(zero offset) looks real good on these trucks. doesn't stick out of the wheel well and doesn't sit in too much to give you that fat girl with skinny legs look,

One thing I don't see is the weight capacity.

Shouldn't that wheel have 4" of backspacing if the offset is zero? If at zero, the wheel/hub mounting surface is at centerline of the wheel. Therefore, an 8" wide wheel with zero offset should have 4" of backspacing. So would 4.5" overall make for 4" backspacing with a 13mm offset?

No, for back spacing you take the width of the wheel add 1", and divide by 2. That's centerline for back spacing.

Had 17" cragar soft 8s on this 1974 ramcharger on one ton 1st gen diesel axles. The center sections are very beefy and heavy overall. Actually they might have been procomps but tbh I doubt there is any difference. I'm sure the weight rating was published as 2500 but these are much heavier than the chrome blade etc. variations.

Huh. Didn't know about the additional 1" in the equation. Although I did just see a mention of rounding up to the next 1/2" when measuring a wheel's width to calculate backspacing. What's the additional 1/2-1" compensating for, the lip on the inner and outer bead flange?

i guess the lip/bead flange. not sure why they do it this way, but it's how the wheel companies measure, so who knows.

if you took an 8" wide rim with 4.5" back space and then measured from the outer lip to hub and inner lip to hub(using a straight edge of course), you'll get the same measurement(4.5"). hence, 0 offset. why they don't just call this a 9" wide rim, we'll never know

Thanks for all the input guys I'll probably be ordering these soon and will post pics of my work in progress. Do these 8 style wheels require the special small lug nuts? I'm not a fan of the spline style and prefer the regular nut type. Even better if the factory wrench will work on there!

The spline style are just locks and won't be necessary. as long as they are 60* conical.

Thanks wheels and lugs ordered picked some cheaper tires out for now until I do front end work and get her running good and straight. Had to buy 5 rims and tires. Previous owner didn't need a spare Haha. I'll post pics when I get them bolted on.
