Smarty Beta vs Bullydog Crazy Lary
Smarty Beta vs Bullydog Crazy Lary
I wanted to let you guys know that this past weekend myself and DTR Member "zuki_dan" were at our local dragstrip in Jacksonville, N.C., namely,
at "Coastal Plains Dragway" and did some testing between the "Bullydog Crazy Lary" and the "Smarty Beta Program." Dan has a 2006 Dodge CTD CR Mega Cab, 4X4 automatic. The truck is set up with the following modifications:
BD Twin Turbos
FASS 150 GPH Pusher Pump
Stock Injectors
Aftermarket Air Filter
5" Stacks
TST PM 3 CR with R-49
Full DTT Tranny with Billet Shafts
For this test, we removed Dan's "Bullydog Crazy Lary" and installed my Smarty Beta Program from my truck. Dan is running the "TST PM 3 CR"
Module with R-49 and has a "Bullydog" Crazy Lary "stacked" on top of the TST. I told Dan that based on what I have seen the past year that he could get his truck into the 12's with my Smarty Beta "stacked" on top of the TST.
He made a few runs BEFORE doing this and COULD NOT get below 13.0.
Well, after the install of the Smarty Beta, Dan went out on the track and went 12.88@104 MPH versus 13.0@103MPH with the Bullydog Crazy Lary!!
The Smarty cut off 2/10ths on his time and added one (1) MPH on the trap speed!! Very impressive indeed!!
Here is a breakdown of the time slip for everyone to compare the differences between the TST PM 3 CR with R-49 and the "stack" of the Bullydog "Crazy Lary" vs that of the "Smarty Beta":

nice report John. Looks like you guys really put some effort into the test.
I can verify your findings myself with track slips between the BDTD w/ a custom tune ( 2.7.2 ) and the smarty on beta ( 4.2 w/ limiter removed )
13.4 @ 100mph - BDTD/MP-8
12.6 @ 109mph - Smarty/MP-8
I hear now the only way to get any sort of custom tune or high hp tune from BD is to buy their PMT ! Not only that but, you have to sign your life away just to get any tunes and !..... pay for them ! I understand people need income but, until I see better results with BD's tunes.... there's no way I'm spending 1K on the PMT.

Dan was VERY HAPPY Rick!!
He said he will DEFINITELY be getting a Smarty now!
He is no different than anyone of us here as you well know. Once you hit the "low 13's" you want to be in the "high 12's",...........once you hit the "low 12's", you want to be in the "high 11's",.....etc., etc., etc............................................... ....................

I hear you buddy!
The Smarty Programs that Marco has developed and Bob Wagner has been marketing for us are truly some AMAZING products!! I can't say enough good things about them and how WELL they "perform as advertised!" The customer service is EXCELLENT, Bob is on this and the other websites CONSTANTLY monitoring problems or questions the Members have and they continually are making improvements to their product!! What more could we ask for from these guys??
I for one am VERY IMPRESSED with EVERYTHING I have seen on the Smarty and the performance of them compared to the competition is very noteworthy. I love mine!---------

John P...was it the old smarty beta (4.2/4.3/4.4?) or the recently released smarty beta? Just curious as the beta 4.4 seems stronger to me than the recently release version.....but it could just be the smoothness of it.

Nice work, John. Thanks for sharing your findings with us!
This is the 3rd or 4th time that someone has compared the Smarty and BD on back-to-back runs, and the outcome has been the same every time. Smarty wins hands down.

It is the newer 4.10 version buddy.

Thanks for your kind words and you are very welcome on the testing!
I had been wanting to do it for awhile now and it worked out good for us since Dan was there at the drag strip with his truck too. I will follow this up with some dyno testing on our trucks too. I want to compare the H.P./TQ. differences on mine and on Dans' too. I will keep you guys posted on that as soon as we can get to the dyno.
Heck, JR,.......you guys have been great on posting results and findings yourself and that is what makes DTR so valuable! I especially like to do it for the DTR Members that are "undecided" on a combination of fueling module/programmers as this type of testing really shows you what gives the best numbers etc.

I will have to check on that and get back to you. I will try to call my friend Dan tonight and ask him. However, I am assuming it is one of the more recent ones as he has not had the truck that long.

John_P,
your results are very interesting since your testing was done with the " beta 410 ".
I guess I need to expand in order to make you understand.
What means the word "beta"? We use that term in order to define an almost definitive software released for testing. You bet, "beta testing"...
Now, I think that concept got a little bit misunderstood lately. Since I have relased the "beta versions" 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 which were meant to test the high Hp stuff, a lot of guys seem to think that whatever is called " Beta " = High Hp.
That is not!
This latest " beta 4.10 " is a refined version of the normal "grocery getter / daily driver" softwares ! With "refined" I mean to say, less smoke, linear throttle, less egt's & & & .. "Beta" just because it was relased for testing pruposes. In fact, with the help of the feed back from the beta testers, I've just finished the definitive version x11y which will be published most likely tomorrow. ( BTW Beta 4.10 = 2.11B original injectors with WG disable, mild TM )
OK, back to my original point. The "beta 4.2 ,4.3 and 4.4" make at LEAST 60 hp more than the "beta 4.10".
It appears to me that the crazy lary is THE high power thinghy everybody has to compete with. Well, you found out how that software compares to
Smarty's stock software. NOT the high Hp version...
Thanks!
Marco
