wire tapping??????

I have had four dodge diesels now all of which had chips,BHAF's and missing some exhaust components, but now I have more questions. I hear people talking on here about tapping wires what's this all about? What would I gain by doing this, Hopefully more power. If more power is the case where do I do the cutting at? I have a Van Aaken installed on my truck now. It's an old chip but still works great.

truck has to be a 98.5-02 and you have to have an edge comp, tst, redline or a "wire tapping" box. Most are good for 120 hp up to 180 hp.

Some of the box's listed above program through your injection pump. Therefor, you peirce the IP wire to get max power out of the box. Some people that have these box's leave them untapped... for some reason?

The chip I have on mine is an older Van Aaken. It plugs into the back of the injection pump and one single wire goes to a sensor by the fuel filter. It does have another wire coming out of the chip with a funky plug on it. That plug has never been hooked to anything.

Look at that "funky" wire and see if to has some kind of clamp or twist tight thing on it with a needle on the inside. If it does, then it probably(assuming) goes to the IP.

It turns out that what I thought was one wire is actually two small orange wires that go to a plug that has never been connected to anything.

It might go to the MAP sensor. It is towards the back of the block on the left side.

not the map sensor..... ALL map sensors (on Cummins) have three wires..... one is 5 volt input, one is ground, and one is return signal

What is the sensor on the left side of the engine that the Comp plugs into? I was certain it was 2 wires (it just may not be the MAP sensor, though). I can't go outside and look at it, either. lol

don't rum the comp, so not too sure. maybe the manifold air tempeture sensor. maybe not. i'd think most box's would plug it to the map sensor.....by the way not trying to prove you wrong. i have all the respect in the world for our fighting men, especially men of the corp.(long family history)

No problem at all! I have been wrong once before, so I suppose being wrong a second time is possible. Lol.
I haven't seen my truck in almost 6 months, so I am a little rusty about what things are called. lol.
I can't see it being the air temp- in fact i know it isn't that. I will have to look up the instructions from Edge, and let you know.

ok went and took the wire loom apart to be sure of the wires. I have 5 wires that go to a "T" at the injection pump. I have 2 yellow wires that go to a "T" on the back of the engine on the drivers side. The chip works because if I unplug it I notice a difference in power. I just don't know what these two extra wires are for. I hope they go to something to add MORE POWER.

The extra wires that go to the plug on
the Van Aaken are for an optional on /off
switch.
