Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

At Bandimere last Friday night the Z06 vette was running mid 14's. Stock vettes run low 15's. Maybe its the altitude, but I was not impressed by the vettes.

I've only tried two and one flipped me off when he got beat and the other gave me a thumbs up. They were 90 something Vettes. Obviously on the highway once you hit your govnor they will walk away from you.

Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

Here's some specs on the C5 vette's. The 97 to current Vette's (C5) run a 346 aluminum LS1 engine. They make about 350-360 hp (the 01+ have the LS6 (Z06) intake manifold and a mild cam in it (you can hear the chop in the idle)) and run between a 13.1-13.3 in the 1/4. They weigh in at around 3300-3200. A Z06 weighs about 3000-3100, has 405 hp, and will run mid 12's dead stock with a decent driver and decent traction. And yes, I have seen numerous Z06's run 12.4-12.5 dead stock. One guy that ran only had 500 miles on the engine and ran a 12.5. Drove it almost straight from the showroom floor to the strip. Stock tires and everything. Watch out for the 98+ Z28's and Firehawks as well. I've raced numerous one's in the vette and I have beaten them by maybe a car at 100+mph. They may be advertised at less hp, but I assure you, they're not. And these were dead stock.

Kind of like that Lamborghini running a high 14 in the "Other" forum.

Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

I'm not sure what the point is here. Anything can be made to go fast with enough money. Unhook the trailer on one of those v12 semi's and watch how fast it chases you around. Corvettes had there bad days just like the Cummins did. Now they are really fast and handle like slot cars. Have been claimed to be the best bang for your dollar in sports cars. Just cause guys cant drive them doesnt mean they suck. How many of us have been in a car with someone that can really drive well? Thats why guys get automatics. So they dont have to mess with gear selection, just mash and go. If you have to only beat old cars then whats so cool about that. You cant gloat your current techno mods to only yesterdays slower paced cars (excluding the older fuelies). Take your truck to the track and see what it (or you) can do then compare numbers to what is out there on the road. My opinion is stay in your league untill you have room to show your goods or be ready to be beaten.

Direct Comparison:

1993 Corvette (Stock) Ran 13.8 with a 2.1 60 ft time.
1997 2500 (302 hp 700 TQ) on the G-meter ran 14.2 with a 2.2 60 ft.

I own both of these. I am actually having more fun driving the truck right now because it catches so many people of gaurd! Not quite as many a Nathan's (IdahoCTD) might though!

Don Miller

Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

The "X" doesnt have a gov. I can top it out at 3300 rpm. Th reason I said the rpm instead of the mph is cause the chip we have turns the everything on the cluster back to as if it was turned off except the rpm and tranny and fuel wont record any miles. Its so cool. Thats how I surpised a camaro he say me get on and wanted to race and he keep jumping so i just hammer'd it and 30-32 psi. 110 mph. I back'd off he game me the thumbs up then there was noone on the road so I decided to catch up to him 130 mph later i was right on his tail. ;D

Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

The only governor on my truck is not enough power to keep pulling. I've had the speedo at 115 but I figure that since the speedo is reading slow, I may be doing closer to 125.

Re:Will my Truck Run with older Vetts

It's not that I don't pull up to that. It's just that I can feel the truck begging for more power to get that speedo wrapped out to 120. ;D
