Arrow Will it hold?

I tow about 8500# worth of RV a few times a year in the mountains (probably about 3000 miles total). I have exhaust and intake mods (see sig), and a Superchips tuner. I want to add RV275s, but I don't want to break the 47RE.

I would like to do a VB and converter, but the cash isn't available right now.

I know, I know...VB and tq converter first THEN more power.... , but I WANT MORE POWER NOW!

Will my tranny hold a Superchips and RV275s when towing? Combined weight of truck and trailer is about 15,500#.

All stock trannies suck do whatever you want to get horsepower blow up you tranny then put a suncoast in. It is alot easier to afford a tranny when your truck won't move!

The valve body by it self would hold those easy and won't cost much more than your injectors... Do that first and then go nuts!

I agree. Do a VB first and then do the 275's and never worry about it again.

Well, I guess its a "next year" thing (when the performance budget recovers).

I think I'll do both the VB, converter, and injectors at the same time. Looks like it'll run me about $2000 to buy it all, and have it installed.

Thanks for the advice, I guess I knew the answer before I posted the first time...

I've got a VA and 275's on a stock tranny with no issues, but then again, I'm not stomping on it either. I really think it's in the way you treat the truck with the mods.

Edit: Forgot to mention I tow a 12K trailer ... not all the time.

i'm just going to put a BD valve body in my 01 and the edge EZ and hope it holds i really don't want to drop 5K for a new tranny just so i could have a little more power, anyone have any feed back on the BD valve body and how much more it could hold over stock.

I did the shift kit/valve body up grade, and it is holding my power just fine, in fact, it shifts so well, I wish I had done it long ago.

No experience with BD's valvebody but I'm running the DTT valve body and I'm putting out almost 200hp over stock and it's holding. It is starting to slip a little in OD though. I don't tow anything but I beat on it daily. My valvebody was designed to only hold a comp and 275's. Not a comp, 100hp injectors, and a KSB-1 turbo. It held the comp and 275's perfectly without any complaints or slippage.

Where is a good place to shop for VBs and TQs? Also, what is the difference between a VB and a shift kit?

The shift kit is a kit, and you modify the VB. Or, you can buy the VB modified. I did the kit. Do a search for SMR and/or Transgo. You will get some good info. I did the smr and am very happy. Depending on your mechanical ability, the kit is very do-able, and a money saver. Here is a link for smr, but you really need to talk to Pat, to get good info on the kit.

As far a power goes I don't have a dyno, but I would guess about 100hp over stock.

There is a full Suncoast VB in the classifieds for about $150 less than a new one(not mine). I just saw it in there yesterday, and was thinking it would be good for someone.
