Yep, you got the definition right And try your local NAPA, Cummins store, or Fleetgaurd supplier. Also a search on here for BHAF will give you more info than you can read, but will include all the different BHAF part numbers and price ranges, and a nice heatshield template.
If I recall, my BHAF was about $44 and I made the heatshield with a little help from a sheetmetal buddy.
If you can't find the template, let me know, and I can email it to ya!

Cool

Hi I am going to see if I can pick up a BHAF filter today. The heat shield template is in the tech facts section on this site.

NAPA part #2790 is what I used, it took the guy a while to find it, he kept asking what it was and I kept repeating #2790. I didn't want to confuse him with BHAF. He found it and had to order it, was here the next day.

I bought the Fleetguard AH19037 at an International truck place for $38. Cummins(just down the street from them)wanted $52 for the same filter.

The Outerwears pre-filter for it should be here any day, and next project is making a heat shield. Thanks tech facts for the template!

Just a of warning. When you attatch the heat shield.... make sure you attach it! Mine came loose and was able to twist a bit, it rubbed a hole in the aluminum A/C line near the firewall. That one is gonna cost me dearly in the spring I'm sure.

Listen to Dakar.

Same thing happened to me. My heat shield rubbed the aluminum A/C line and I lost my freon. Easy to replace not to expensive but just make sure the shield is not rubbing anything.

Honestly I took my heat shield off and I don't see any difference in performance or EGT's.

if you call them you can tell them what you have and give them a part number for the fitler, and they will know exactly what you are talking about, you can order right over the phone, all I told him was that I was calling about the pre-filter cover for the air filter that people use to replace the air box assy. on the Cummins trucks, he said "oh the BHAF pre-filter" and we checked the filter number and I ordered one........mine was $33.75 including shipping...

Phone number was 1-800-967-3450

Guys does it seem a little silly using a heat conductive material as a heat shield?

a heat shield absorbs and dissipates some of the heat also, aluminum is a great material for that...

to be honest I have read that it doesn't really make a difference in EGT's anyway
