Whats a J-Hook?

What exactly is the J-hook you guys talk about for the turbo on the 99-01 Cummins? Sounds like a great upgrade, just wondering how it works, how to install, where to get it and the cost...?

It mounts on with the WG and helps hold the WG closed untill a higher boost pressure is reached.

Here is a picture of what they look like. They cost about $55 from Bully Dog.

Thanks for replying. I've been looking at bully dogs site, and can't find a j hook anywhere. Got a link?
Also, how much boost does it let you build? I'm getting 20psi at W.O.T now. Can I go more without damaging something?

You can also rig one up from the hardware store for about $5.00

I used the below option for about 100k with zero problems finally put on a different turbo with a higher wastegate setting

one of these
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053

with one of these
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...atalogId=10053

in the appropriate size and length will get it done

It only does you good if you have a boost fooler along with some added fuel. Not sure if your mods include that or not. Otherwise it will just throw an overboost code and defuel.

You are clamping the wastegate shut so it will build as much boost as your turbo can produce. With your 01 auto stock is about 20psi unsure of what the flashpaq is capable of but with the HY-9 turbo that came on your truck you dont want to go much above high twenties. After that you start pushing hot air which isnt going to help you. I doubt the flashpaq will do more than that anyway but again am not schooled on the capabilities of the flashpaq.

I would just use a turnbuckle to 'lock out' your wastegate. With your power mods you will not exceed the max recommended for your turbo.... 32 psi.
As stated, this supposes your Superchip does include a boost fooler curcuit.

Yeah i had an hy35 once on my truck and i could get it up to 35 lbs with a turnbuckle, but i ended up toasting it. With the J-hook i kept it in a sweet spot around 30 lbs.

I agree, get a turnbuckle. It only costs a few bucks from any hardware store. I hit 32 psi as my max pressure.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I don't think the flashpaq has a boost fooler, but i'm not positive. it doesnt say anything about it on their site. i suppose i could make one from the parts list from home depot and try it, see what it does. i should know within one rip around the block right?

Kerry, Might I suggest that you sell the superchip and buy a quadzilla, edge ez, or another box that had boost fooling programed into it. You could buy a boost fool and run your superchip but I think you benefit more from another box. I like the quad xzt, it's able to be updated and has alot of neat features like high idle and cold engine protection. I haven't ran an edge ez yet but I've known a few people that have and they like them alot too.

Well Red, I would love to get rid of the flashpaq and get a gnarlier box.... but the wife is kinda put the lockdown on the expensive mods for awhile. She says I gotta paint the house and build a nice wrap around proch and remodel the bathroom before I can do anything expensive to the dodge or the harley. And she's the boss. So, maybe I'll just leave it be for now....

Gotta please the boss first! Save up for a box with boost fooling instead.

I have to apologize as I dont know the names of the parts I hooked each end too. However I found a picture of the setup. I used an s hook on the wastegate side as my turnbuckle wouldnt hook it very well however many people dont seem to have that prolem. You do need to make sure it has a fair amount of tension on it so that it wont work itself loose as the wastegate tries to open it is fairly stout when opening.

Checked with a guy who knows Superchip products.... you have no boost fooler and they have no options that will give you boost fooling!
Sorry.
