01 and 02 auto trucks have a hy35 turbo. It has a hard line instead of a soft line like a hx35. The j-hook is used on the hy35 to hold the waste gate closed longer to make more boost. It is only needed when adding fueling boxes. Does nothing for a stock truck.

My truck is somewhat of a mystery. It is an 01 5 spd.Im positive its 01 because it has the 01 style data link and map. However the turbo is hardlined.I dont get it unless someone changed out the turbo and wastegate system, which i seriously doubt. This little hy will burn alll the fuel I have easily without going over 1250.In my 12v my HX will not even come close .I can peg my pyro quite easily.I know the drag comp and smarty makes more fuel than a 0 plate .Whatever,Im not complaining ,just surprised

I have an 02 auto, and a J-Hook. It is a J shaped hook and a spring, then a solid mounting point. First, a wastegate is a device (valve of sorts) that allows exhaust gasses that normally help to spin the turbo to bypass it when the turbo reaches a certain amount of boost. The wastegate is activated by an arm that moves to open it. The J-hook attaches to the arm, and the spring helps to hold the arm and valve closed until more boost is achieved.

In a turbo diesel, more fuel = more power. But, more fuel without more air = black smoke, higher EGTS and under utilized power as black smoke is unburned or partially burned fuel going out the exhaust pipe. More air will cool that exhaust temperature down, and allow the fuel to burn more completely, and make for better combustion, and a bit more power.

Just an FYI. I have an 01 with the hy and drum rear brakes... sucks for me, I got the worst of both sides. I guess it not like I can't upgrade both. The year drum brakes confused the heck out of me for a while. Dodge had no answers and when I had them run the vin, they said it was a 01. Even if you read Dodge's website, they specifically state 01 had the rear disc upgrade. I guess mine is a freak.
