Re:what is this turbo????

It came off a Cummins VT-555-C engine. The base V-555 engine put out about 250 hp. Max output was up around 350 hp. It was a slow speed engine with an upper rpm limit around 2000rpm. Used mostly in large agri and construction equipment. The turbo model is T50. It was a slow turning unit and max boost was somewhere around 22-28 psi but put out a large volume of air.
Hope that helps.

Re:what is this turbo????

Some of the tractor pullers have tried that turbo or variants of it with limited luck. The T-50 is a cheap turbo and can be had new for less than 5 bills. Long ago I talked to Pius about one....cuz I had found one cheap and he laughed at me. Said they were pretty cheesy for big boost apps without hybriding, etc.

Hows your truck running anyway?

Don~

I dont know if it will or not. No maps for the turbo and no way of knowing what it will do makes me leary. It might be the greatest thing in the world, but we dont know. Try it out and see what happens Man. it will at least be fun. Grab MK and get to work

Don~

Re:what is this turbo????

i have already had him look at it and stoped by his shop to compare it to a ht3b he uses for mock up work. i think it would work fine, but i am a bit leary. i am to much of a poor boy to have mark fab me a set up. i will do it all myself, but i will copy his design and layout. hell i am in it 20 bucks, so it is not like i will loose a bunch of money on the deal. mike

Re:what is this turbo????

A bit more info on the turbo.
The entire engine was a military only abortion. It displaced 785 ci and had a nasty habit of pulling the wrist pins out of the # 3 and # 7 pistons. The engine started out as a 210 hp @2100 rpm and the military cranked everything up to 300 hp @ 3000 rpm. The turbo was matched to the engine. There were some other variants of the T50, housing and such, but the T50 was specific to the V555 (also know as a 300 Cummins). We had them for years in our engineer heavy haulers. Grade A POS.
The turbo might be nice to play with, HOWEVER I wouldn't want to put it on something of mine. All of our older mechanics cuss EVERYTHING about that engine.

Re:what is this turbo????

the more i look at it , the more i am thinking about useing it. it won't cost me much to fab the manifolds. and if it fed a 700" motor at 3k it should work on my 5.9 at 3500 to 4k. if i feed 30psi into it and get 55 to 60 out i will be happy and cool. should tow like a dream.

Re:what is this turbo????

If your going to use this as the big turbo you won't be feeding pressure into the turbo, do you think you can spool this as the small turbo so that the larger turbo can pressure it?
Bruce
