what SIZE 16 in.tire for most MPG? not make

I am currently running 285/75/16 on a stock 1998.5 -24 v-Automatic -4 w.d. Most of my driving is long distance highway, closest red light is 120 miles away. What SIZE 16 inch tire will give me the most MPG. I do not want to debate MAKE at this time.
Thanks to all
john

I'd say 235/85/16. Might also want to consider 255/85/16. The 255's are 33" tires and they're about as wide as stock, so you should get about the same kinetic friction with them with about 4" extra diameter to lower your rpms. But the 235's are skinner than stock and about 30" (I think). Both should be good.

The narrower the tire, the less rolling resistance you have. 235/85R16 should be good. It's roughly 32 inches tall and 9.2 inches wide. What is your rear end ratio? If it's 4.10 you may want something taller, But i'd stay as narrow as possible. And go with something with a highway tread.

I agree with the 255/85s. Selecting a hwy tire in that size can be tricky, as the BFG M/T is one of the few mass-market tires available in that size.

The 235/85 size will give you a LOT of hwy tire options and have the same gearing as a 265/75.

An all-steel construction LT235/85R-16E rib (think of them as a mini Class 8 tire) is generally recommended by the tire manufacturers for commercial applications - they tout long mileage, strength and durability, low rolling resistance.

I know you don't want brands, but I just installed 6 Michelin XPS Ribs last Saturday that meet the description above.
