what setup should i run?
what setup should i run?
Ive always loved deisels. Im sick of my jeep, and i want a Fast ram, that will be a daily driver, and get good gas mileage.
I was thinking about a newer 2500 reg cab, 4x4, short bed, with the 5.9 cummins, and auto tranny.
What do you guys think of that setup? I want to have around a 13 sec truck, and still be able to get around 18-20 mpg. Is that possible? I was also thinking about some kind of weight reduction possibly.
Also, i am new to this, but have an idea of what mods to get.
I was thinkin along the lines of a fuel delivery box, larger turbo, intake manifold, headers, exhaust, chip etc. I know there is alot more i can do as well.
I also dont want to have to worry about headaches. I do most of the maintainance on my jeep, but as with most modded vehicles, they require more.
Anyone have any insight?
How much would I need to spend in mods to be around 13 sec.

Re:what setup should i run?
Couple things, you need to plan on an aftermarket tranny if you aren't already... I don't think a stock AT would survive a single 13 second pass. Also, a 2500 reg. cab is only available with the long (8 foot) bed, the 6 ½' bed is only available on quad/extra cab models.
Somebody with a fast truck will have to address your other questions.

Re:what setup should i run?
ok well the reason i said 6.5 is because i want to start the lightest possible. Ill hafta look and see the weight diff between a reg cab 8 foot, and ex cab, 6.5 foot. If there isnt a big diff, i would rather have the ex cab.
I didnt know it only came in 8 foot though.

Re:what setup should i run?
I think you need a 99-2001 Cummins 4x4 ext cab short bed, Auto.
You will need an aftermarket tranny, that will run about $4000
A fueling box like Drag Comp from Edge $850 or TST PM3 Comp and Edge EZ $1200.
A Pdr HX40 that will run about $1200 w/ down pipe.
4" exhaust $400
100-125hp injectors $600-800
ATS manifold $450
AFE megacannon or Scotty 2 $210
Gauges $400 (fuel pressure inlcuded)
You can get away with Drilled banjos at this point (experience speaking).
A new set of tires about once a year $500-800
Oil change every 3k miles $27
Fuel filter every 15K miles $15
So roughly another $8000
Also, as soon as you purchase this truck go ahead and have an expert retorque the head bolts to ensure no premature headgasket failures.
Mileage, usually 100hp injectors and auto tranny you will yield about 14-15mpg in the city and 18-19 highway with a stock turbo. With a 40 turbo delete about 1 mpg in the city, about the same for highway.
With 125hp injectors delete about 2mpg to the above.
Still not bad mileage intersate driving though.
After a while you wont care about mileage and just want more power, no matter what.

Re:what setup should i run?
well that sounds like a real nice setup. About what would that truck be in the 1/4? 13's?
Anyways, i just graduated from high school and i still gota pay for college and what not, so i dont think ill be able to afford a 99-01 with everything mentioned, although that would be nice.
I was thinkin an older model with a few k into mods.
