Question What to do????

I am looking to get some performance mods done to my truck when I get it back. Admittedly, I don't know squat other than what I've read off of this great site.

I'd like to increase the HP by at least 85HP and increase the torque by at least 200 FtLbs. My truck is currently straight stock and is 10 years old.

I've received estimates on 3 types of enhancements:

1. Torque plate, gauges (EGT,Boost, TransTemp), deep tranny pan. $900

2. Fuel Pump, injectors, deep tranny pan, and gauges. $1400

3. Air intake and exhaust, guages and deep tranny pan. $ TBD (waiting for estimate!)

Out of the 3 choices - what is the operating principle and the advantage of each (except for #2 is kinda obvious) and without cost being a factor, what would be the best mod to do on a 10 year old truck with 121K mileage?

Any input would be appreciated!!

Thanks

I would have to say the combo between 1 and 3, you will need better airflow from your filter and exhaust to go along with the torque plate and the guages will keep you safe... Get the guages first, then do the mods, I personally have done the BHAF, then straight pipe, I am still deciding on whether or not to buy a #10 plate or grind my own, and my guages are waitin to be installed...Injectors should be your last objective of them all...Guages first, Air filter second, exhaust 3rd, plate 4th...hope that helps alil

Bob....who talked to ou about #2? That is sorta odd.....esspecially if you don t have the other stuff. To get into the pump is ussually way way down the road, Im guessing they didn t really mean the pump.

You need gauges, since your towing(250-400). The deep tranny pan is not a bad idea.(guessing 150 for the pan) the swap pretty easy.

Exhuast....400 air intake....60 - 250 (homemade- vendor)

Fuel plate......no more then 150, again easy to install.

You have a 160 hp engine right? Probably pretty economical to get your hands on some 215 injectors...probably best to talk with some 160 hp owners.

1320 gives the same advice I would except you can probably get pretty darn close to to the 85hp with the stock injectors.

Need to revise the list:

1. Torque plate, gauges and deep tranny pan - $700
2. CamKit, gauges and deep tranny pan - $1500
3. Air box/Exhaust, gauges, deep tranny pan - $TBD

Sorry about the pump/injector thing - it was the last thing I read on the DieselDynamics site, thus the last thing I remembered...I hate getting old.
