Welding to Rear Axle

I'm going to hopefully fab up some traction bars in a couple of weeks, and the way I am planning it is to just weld a bracket to the rear axle. There will be 1 link at the frame and 2 at the axle for each side. My question is, should I have to worry about anything when burning the brackets in? I know that the seal is out at the hub, the only thing I can think of is maybe burning the fluid sitting inside the axle tube. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Agreed... work slow. If you can alternate sides and don't weld more than ~1" at a time.

Thanks guys, that's reassuring. I'm sure I'll still be a bit nervous just before I start, this is my first time welding to a frame or axle, but it's for a good cause

Make sure you have a good ground on the housing so there's no chance of arcing thru the bearings. You might want to remove the filler plug in case the vent is a bit plugged to relieve any pressure build-up.
