VP44 Pump rebuilder possably in the future......
ok there is a local bosch factory that offers classes on becoming a certified rebuilder and distributer.....well i sent up a letter through my command to see if the military will pay for the 9,000 class fee and it went pass my unit up to head Marine Corp.........it might get signed off as a legit deal pretty soon and if it does i will share my comments on rebuilding them for little cheaper to DTR members since by my understand there making like 82% profit on the 1400 dollar charge......

I've seen what the rebuilders pay for VP44 parts and the markup isn't any worse than any where else in the automotve world. There is considerable labor time involved in rebuilding, including 4 hours on the test stand for calibration. Then when you consider the over $100k investment in the equipment and training which is required, $1400 isn't too bad of a price.

Contrary to popular belief, profit is not a bad thing. I hope you get to go to your school, I really do, and I hope you can open a shop rebuilding them. But a word of advice if I may. Don't rebuild them and charge less than $1,395 or you WILL go broke (and be working for someone else who rebuilds them for $1,400) or you may have to re-enlist!. I've seen way too many guys think they can do something "cheaper" and save people money, but they end up going broke in the long run. The point of any business is to MAKE money, not save people money. It is CUSTOMER SERVICE & QUALITY at a FAIR PRICE that keeps a business going, NOT saving people money. Your "customers" will be diesel shops by and large not individuals. Blue Chip rebuilds them for $1,600 and I would by one in a heart beat cause of the warranty and REPUTATION.
Cost of Rebuild = equipment + interest on loan + materials + labor + rent + shipping + utilities + paperwork + retirement + 30% ROI (Return on investment) + 30% PROFIT.
I hope you start a business and make a killing! But you won't do it giving away your profit.
Thank you for your service to our country.

I dont believe you can make a living on just VP44 , you will need to get proficient in all different injection pumps, even then there will only be so much work available will all the new style injection. with the big three having recon programs. even turbo guys have a hard time making it nowadays.
