VGT Turbo controlls

Anyone see anything unusual in this picture? I'm shure most of you can notice the HY55 VGT turbo hanging off this Common Rail complete with its own controll box and miniature air pressure tank. Banks used this on their Sidwinder truck and it will be interesting if they decide to market this. Anyone make it to this Inidianapolis show and get to see this up close?

Air pressure is used to control the sliding of the guide vanes in the VGT charger. The computer box controls the air pressure that controlls the VGT.

I go to the Indy show every year and was talking with Curtis Halvorson, he's the race shop manager. It didn't sound like they have any plans for the VGT to be for sale. The Sidewinder was in the hotel across the street and Gale had an hour presentation on turbo charging that was kind of interesting. But even more interesting to me was one company that was selling an aftermarket billet 7100. They had only one and their both was unmanned so I don't know much about it. If anyone else on this board was there it was in the same room with banks at the top righthand side near the detroit locker booth.

That engine looks like the industrial ISBE not the Dodge version. I am assuming this is for the RV crowd??

Dean Weir, "wiercummin" over on the TDR has been running a VGT for a couple of years now. It takes 100 psi air pressure and computer controls to operate it. I think he uses a kilby air compressor kit for the air supply.

The Edge guys played with the VGT a couple of years ago. They didn't have thier control system working right and over sped the turbo. Lucky there wasn't anybody in the passenger seat because pieces of turbo went thru the dash right into the cab.

I havn't seen Dean post in quite some time on the TDR. I know he blew one VGT turbo up last year and installed another one. I think that he was running the HY40 version and not the 50. I'm curious how the second turbo is working out and if he has inproved the controls any.

Well kinda... its made of stainless steel and those ribs that you see are actually expantion joints that are welded in... so it is actually one piece.
