Twins Vs Single
Twins Vs Single
Im stuck. My truck feels slow now and im ready to get serious. I here good things about twins and i here good things about a big single. Im just curious what everybody has to say about the ups and downs. TWINS or SINGLE???
twins are the best (if their in you budget) big single $1300 to $2000 twins $3500 to $5000. to use all the boost and get the good out of the twins you need to stud the head, and with it off rebuild it, that's another 2k.
I saw a peak of 73psi with my 40/B2 combo...but EGT's were still through the roof on my old 95...timing was at stock, and no studs, headwork, or anything else was done! Not a very good setup for making power!
Now, a proper setup with a 40/B2 made 648.8hp on a 99 24v that member Joefarmer used to have. Cam, ported head, and big sticks...no smoke after the chargers lit, and peaked @ about 76psi IIRC!!
That setup is hard to beat IMHO...but even in the twinset, the HX40 can be a timebomb. Mine was fine, but I have heard of others grenading them as top chargers!

I am going to try and do over 500 HP on a single , but keep the good spool up , no drugs.
I am going to do ALOT of head work, valves , springs , stage 3 port/polish , o ring, and i have a hankering for a DonM Helix cam , and i will top that off with an S300 of some sort, likely a 62/14 or a 64/14. That will be supplying Air to a set of edms of some sort (likely 435's to start off),and a slightly massaged pump and backed by a goerend tranny.

In a twins app, A HX-40 is pretty good choice. Limit your boost to around the mid 20's, any more than that your driving up your drive pressure. There is better choices that cost more $$$ but a good bucks down combo is the 40/3B combo. If you put the right pieces together you get a good combo. Thats the trick as there millions of 3b and 40 combos. Nothing to complicated for us diesel heads.
Go with a smalller charger...that 62/12 will spool OK, but it won't be what I would call Towing twins, unless you have 4.10's and don't mind a little lag.
I would say a 62/12 and B2 combo would light around 1800 (which isn't bad, and I have towed 30K with my 40/B2, but I have a stick
)
If you're really looking for a towing setup...go with a HTBG, Super B, or something that size, and put a B2 under it if you don't tow too often or heavy. If you want super fast spool, go with a GT4294 (71mm wheel) or a K31! The GT42 has a few different housing options, down to 1.01...wastegating the big charger will be nescessary if you use one of these!
Make sense??

I dunno if this is as necessary on a 12v, but i know its sure a heckava lot cheaper for the 12v's than the 24v's.
Not "as" necessary on a 12v...but if you were really worried about it, I would rebuild it! Remember, it won't cost as much on a 12v, either
My extra head is being ported, oringed, and rebuilt as we speak...ready to go on my spare block since I got this lovely 53 in the 98
