Twins Kit

I ran across a twins kit and was wondering what kind of numbers I could expect and what type of manners it would have in a 5 speed 215 pump truck.
Turbos are as follows
S300G 57/65/14 wastegated and the bottom is a
Borg Warner S400 75/96/1.32 non gated.

I'm looking for good spool up (37"s with 3.5) and the ability to tow in the 8-10K range yet make some pretty good numbers with EGTs in reason.

Are there any other variants that may work better?

The truck will get a set of sticks, studs and maybe a Fletcher cam at the same time.

Thanks

that would be a good set of towing twins and once the s400 lights, you will have plenty of get up and go with real low egts. My ht3b, I think its a 76/88/26 primary allows me to sit at 50psi all day and not go over 1200 egts at 16.5 timing. At 19.5 timing, it will sit right around 1100 egt at 50 psi. If you can get a deal on that setup I would go ahead and do it. You will most likely need more fuel (5x.014 would work well) and an upgraded clutch to hold everything together. I would say you can sit at 45-50psi all day at 16* timing without really risking your HG.

Hey thanks

The truck has a #100 plate, 4K GSK and 16* of timing right now along with a 13" OFE clutch. I may throw a little more timing at it but its a pig down low with the tire/gear combo.

That would be an awsome street/tow twin setup. Street twins beat a big single any day.

Eric how are your's treating you?

very well, I couldnt ask for a better setup. I'll be putting a trailer behind it with 5 or 6 bikes then hitting the mountains in western MD, cant wait to see how it pulls mountains now.

This would be somewhat comparable to the BD R700 kit except what you've described has a larger S400 than the R700's...

That's roughly what the vendor making the kit told me. Does the BD stuff really make those big numbers?

I was thinking about some New Era 370s or 435s. Will I need larger DVs to feed 435s? If I go that route

Diesel power source makes a kit in roughly the same price range as the first kit I posted about.
Their specs are
"Top D-Tech 62/65/12, Bottom Bhtb3 74/7/26." different from a 3b?

Is the bigger wheel in the top charger going to make it slower spooling than the other kit (even though the ex. housing is tighter)? Any guesses on power potential?

Thanks

It may be a little slower spooling but with a good size wastegate it should run a little better mid-range and top end, lower egts and such.

They claim to have 200% greater wastegate capacity with their D-tech top turbo.

In their 3rd gen kit the turbine housing on the top turbo is shorter and something is also different with the compressor housing on the bottom turbo. Not sure I want to buy into a kit that corners me into using their parts for the life of the kit.

I don't know anything about sizing turbos so I'm open to all suggestions at this point.

The specs on the Bht3b are 74/76/26, had a typo in my last post.

In their any kind of rough comparison to A/R type numbers?

I'm confused about the large exhaust wheel on the S400 offered in the first kit. Is it an inducer vs exducer thing? Is there one number that is more important to look at?
Sorry about all the questions, thanks.

Well, I'm running an S300G (57/65/14) over a GT4202 (74/82/1.28) and like it a ton...

you're going to get better low RPM spool with the S300G than the D-tech and if you're going to tow, you're going to want to be on boost early....

what kind of power are you wanting to support?

I'd like to squezee every little bit of power out of the combo. The truck only has clutch enough for 500 right now... Hopefully we can dial it in so its driveable with a valet switch while towing.

The bigger set may be an option if a cam goes in as well. The cam guy also does some serious pump work too. I'm going to give him my price range and see where that can get me.

The kit that uses the S475 bottom turbo will support more HP and have lower overall drive pressure. The 57mm top turbo will spool a little faster in the 0-10 psi boost range due to it having a smaller compressor and a more open bottom turbo=less exhaust restriction. The second set using the smaller BHT3B bottom turbo will come on a little quicker in the low mid range since the BHT3B will spool a touch faster, especially with the smaller turbine wheel and lower flowing less aggressive blade pitch compressor wheel. The BHT3B is good turbo but the S400 is newer more efficient technology.
