Turbo guys, Single or Twins....input needed, please help...

Ok, I'm looking at getting a new turbo setup of some kind once I get injectors and stack my Juice. Tranny is ready for it, so that's not a problem anymore. I tow between 25k-34k # often. The truck spends about 75-80% pulling a loaded trailer. I need a setup that can handle about 400-550hp not be laggy when daily driving it and so on. I was thinking about doing the cooling mist to help the egt's, but might avoid that if I do twins. Pro's and con's to running twins????-- I've heard they are a pain and people have problems with them, more than the singles...that true? Looking at doing this by the first of the year.

I've had my twins in for a couple weeks and haven't had any troubles. I'd definitely do it again.

400-550hp is not going to work with a single if you want to tow that heavy.... even with water/ meth.... not gonna work

twins are going to be your best bet. the bd twins are great towing twins and very reliable.

rip rook also has a good setup where you can use your stock turbo as the top turbo, this would also make a good set of towing twins.

either of these would put you around 450-500 useable horsepower. (you cold tow at this hp and not have egt problems)

Pretty much echoing my original thoughts.... one concern would be his stock turbo isn't going to work with Rips setup.

another thing to consider when going with twins is the head/headgasket... most recommend studs as a minimum and depending on how far you want to go, others would recommend studs and o-rings as a minimum.

This is good advice, imo.

Do yourself a favor and turn down the HP when towing. Small twins (K31/GT4202 primary) are likely to be a good option for you.

FWIW

IMO 350 Hp seems about optimum for max towing. Go much higher and you run into overheating engine issues, while EGT's stay in check, if you pull long grades.

Well I'm looking at spending as much as I need to, to keep things in line and working properly. How much would the studs and o-rings cost me??? It looks like twins is gonna be my best bet. Thanks guys! Do I need to worry about it being laggy when just daily driving it??? I've heard it'll be quieter than a single (as far as exhaust) That doesn't bother me though.

As far as it being laggy it all depends on which twin set you go with many different combinations, what injectors are you going to be running with the twins?

towingn twins shouldnt be laggy. they should be as fast if not faster spooling than stock, because your going to be running basically the same size top turbo, but a lot more fuel.

i forgot your stock turbo wouldnt work because you have an 01 with a 9cm hotside, find a 12cm or 14cm w/g hotside and swap that in and it would work.

I would think the B-d twins would fit your bill, and suit you well
