Which turbo?

Alright, well my truck is going to be getting some more upgrades here sometime in the future.

I plan on stacking an Edge Drag Comp with the Smarty, +150hp injectors, port/polish the head, o-ring head, marine head gasket, head studs, Southbend DD clutch, and possibly some other misc. things...?

What turbo would work best for me to use with these things?

I am wanting to make 600 + hp and still be able to use it as a daily driver and use it for sled pulling on the weekends....is this too much to be asking?

What turbo would you recommend for what I am wanting to do?

t-66 for the street and a t-72 for the track. both ball-bearing of coarse. then get the tops of your pistons ceramic coated. that, will let you run your E.G.T's up to 2000* and blow 2 foot flames out of your stacks.( so I've heard). then drive it to church on sunday

All depends on what class you want to pull in =P
Check on the rules with the local pulling associations =P

The drag comp only fuels to 3200ish so you might be better off with a smarty with a tst comp or a redline with a basic timing box you you can turn higher rpms. You should add valve springs and ladder bars to your list.

Is it do-able? Yes, but 600+ can break a lot of parts and so can pulling

Yeah, I know I will be pushing my luck with a truck making 600 + hp using it for sled pulling every weekend and then using it as a daily driver every day. Next year around winter time I am going to be buying a winter beater though so I could use that all the time if I wanted.

You are going to need a much larger injector than 150's to reach 600+rwhp, and you will need a 66mm or larger turbo...

Advantage of 12 housing is a little faster spoolup. Advantage of 14 housing is lower drive pressures, more efficiency.

I'd go with the 14 housing for sure. The larger compressor needs more flow capacity on the hot side, imo.

The HX40w was a popular upgrade turbo for the CTDs a couple years back, as it's the OEM turbo on the next bigger Cummins engine-- the C-series 8.3L. The problem with the HX40, though is that it's not designed to run the higher boost levels the smaller 5.9L engine needs. At boost levels over 40psi, the turbo is a ticking time bomb. The shaft on it is the same as the HX35, but the larger wheels on it overstress the skinny shaft when pushed to higher boost levels.

Lots of guys have made over 500hp with the HX40. Lots of guys have also turned them into grenades at less than 500hp.

With the newer turbos that are on the market, the HX40's popularity has waned, as most guys are going with the much stronger Borg-warner based turbos. Also, Garrett and Turbonetics are now in the fray, while for awhile the HX40s were about the only game in town.

If you are only going to run boost levels up to the lower 30s, then the Super 40 from Holset is a pretty good option. After that, look elsewhere imo.

Are you going to tow with the truck?
Are you planning on pulling in a specific class in your area? i.e. 2.8 class.
Everybod has the go big or go home mentality. On my brother's 99 we made 545hp on a HTT 62/14. Awsome on the street. Towed really well on comp 2/3 with no egt issues, and did a little sled pulling. Not saying that is the perfect combo but you can make good streetable power with a lot less charger than some seem to think.
I would think a 64mm with a ldp wheel would work well. HTT, II, BD, etc
Just my opinion I guess.

I'm sure the truck will see some towing. It will also be used as a daily driver and used to sled pull at the local events during the weekends....

97-- those are really impressive numbers for a 62mm turbo! Awesome..

I think the key is keeping the housing open a bit. Unless a person HAS to have the tightest housing, the 14 or 16 housing is better for ultimate HP and EGT cooling, imo.

I like the LDP drive wheels myself, though they are a hair slower so spool.

i thought above 30psi on the hx35 was about the max, and after that its just hot air and waiting to grenade. could be wrong tho
