torque plate for a total beginner!!

alright i visited TST website and wildcatdiesel site...i know what the plate is and all that...i have a 95 2500 with an auto...babied it since i got it...never plowed and never really pulled...just some lil gravel and soil here and there...tranny shifts just fine...i wanted to get somehting around 700 lbs of torque...so tst told me i should get the #5 plate...the truck is still gonna be babied and used for driving getting around...i noticed the 6 plate is recommended for my tranny on the site.....what am i risking with the tranny ...and what do u guys recommend...ive also seen guys on here preachign the #10 plate a lot...telling me to ignore that chart on the tst site...if i get the #10 for my 95 auto truck what would i be looking at with power..they dont even recommend it on the site

A #10, 3K's and timing will net you about 300 HP and too much for a stock auto so all you would have to do is back the plate off a tad or put it in the stock postion.

This is a 300K 95 5 speed with a #10,4K's and timing at 15-16 and a whooping 1150 degrees of EGT.....stock HX-35/12

I forgot to mention the lower number was the bone stock run prior to the update.

thanx man thats pretty impressive...so that would work on my 95 auto??...id be looking at 300 hp huh...thats awesome

Jim how in the world did you keep the egt's down. I am running a number 6 and just added delivery valves wich helped with a lot of different things like cold weather starts are much easier it runs really smooth as soon as it starts and it has more low end but when I added the dv valves my egt's went through the roof I have tried a number of things to bring them down and I got them controllable but I can still get it pretty hot. At what position do you put the governor lever on the 10 plate.

I really like the #10 as it is so versatile, you can make it tame or agressive, on the Gov arm adjustment it just depends on were you want the bottom power to begin and top power to end, that plate has a half moon curve so it comes on smooth(clutch and stock tranny keeper) and de-fuels on the top to control EGT's, big DV's do add power and definately EGT's I ran into that 2 years ago. Start with the Gov arm just over the nose of the #10 and go from there.

Here is the real test, 97' 5 Speed dually, 200K, #10 type plate, stock DV's, 370's, 3K's, Stock 35 with an 18.5 housing and 4" exhaust along with a Stage 2 Snowperformance Water/Methanol kit running a 50/50 mix, the sheet shows with and without the water on........1350 degrees on the dyno, 1500 on the road at 5th gear de-fuel.

Jim that dyno sheet is priceless. It says it all for the #10. Best recommendation you made was for me to change to the 10. I had a #5 on a 180hp pump and I love the change that the 10 made for me.

BTW I still have a few problems with 20k lbs+ Loaded EGT's but i think mine is due to a sub-standard Intercooler Ford problem.

A 10 definately. More long term potential, stock position won't yeild much but once you are ready like Jim just showed you the potential is definately there.

Road EGT's are just shy of 1800 the best I can tell without water injection, the needle is on the M in the autometer word.

Yes, and you can slide it forward some (say ~.030-.040") and be fine. Just don't get too carried away. You can do more later once you make additional mods (esp. beef up tranny).
