If you use the switch for the right reason it won't hurt anything. If you try to do lock to lock shifts, you can hurt your tranny in a way you wished you never heard the words lockup switch...

I've had a lockup switch for a long while now. I use it on the highway only or when I'm pulling a load. You must remember the switch should be used only to keep the converter locked so when you let off the fuel you have some engine braking.

I have one and use it allll the time. I know it may be killing the tranny. Sure speeds things up when it shifts locked up. But yes, with it off, the truck is exactly as it was before it was on.

Lock to lock shifts means you take off from stop with the switch in the locked position. The TC locks up when it shifts to 3rd, then 4th, then OD. Im not sure on the mileage. Mines been on for over 15K

if you do it, make sure you get a 3 position switch. 1. locked 2. unlocked 3. factory operaterd. i ran one on my 97 for about 1 1/2 years. i went through 4 TC's. i don't know if thats why, but i believe that it's harder on the TC than it is the tranny itself. i probably used it more than i should have, but i couldn't stand the in and out of the lockup while cruising through town or at lower speeds.

I say go for it. Just be smart with it. I put one on my truck and it really makes it more fun to drive. Just be smart with it because you can really fry that TC if youre foot is too heavy, mostly below 2000rpm. What its really good for is keeping the TC locked when youre up to speed on the highway. Before i put mine on mine was constantly locking/unlocking. Just dont forget to unlock it when you come to a stop

Input shaft is what I worry about, but if the TC is stock maybe the TC will slip before the input shaft breaks?

What about locking the TCC for accelerating hard (and shifting) on something heavier duty like a DTT rig?
I like the idea of a little bit of engine braking

When you're running the lockup switch in conjunction with an Ebrake, do you have to lock/unlock a lot or what? I ordered a Towlock and a BD Ebrake, not sure how to operate the lock switch on a stock auto tranny. Do you think I'll still have engine braking power down to like 15mph? Kind of confusing.

That is true depending on what mods have been done to the VB, mine will lock in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th!! I use my lockup switch all the time, GREAT when towing, and fun if you accept the risk to the input shaft.

DTT Smart Controller

Consider a DTT Smart Controller. It does the thinking for you! You program the upshifts and downshifts and it dissengages below 30mph,thus saving the TC.

No, and it doesn't matter which engine you have.

All that matters is who setup the valve body.
