I am going to be putting a new torque converter in my 01. Has exhaust and ez chip. I have heard alot about the triple loc but know a buddy who put one is a stroker and it lasted 20k and blew into a million pieces. What would you suggest. I am also going to do a shift kit.

I'd stay away from the el cheapo's. The ones I had in my hands (Though advertising with the right buzzwords) were junk.
The only aftermarket TCs that I have good experiences with are from DTT. (I did not have one from any one of the other major players like ATS and Goerend)
My suggestion is to talk to these companies individually and let them consult you on what you need for your intended use of the truck.

I have been looking at the single disc from TCS..they have all the goodies you will want and are priced well at just over $600 with those mods you wont need a tripple unless you tow something crazy

 

Whichever brand you choose, make sure the company will give you your money back if you aren't completely satisfied. I had a Protow from Autotrans in for a couple of weeks. It had a stock stall speed. It would rev to 2800 RPM and the truck would "catch up" in every gear. I had a bit of trouble getting them to take it back. I ended up having to pay labour to swap it out for a DTT. The DTT is much tighter. RPMs drop when the trans shifts, like they should. Much more fun to drive.

 

I have had my triple lock in for almost 100,000 now without any prob;ems (hard towing). I do know that Clint at ATS stands behind everything he sells.

Ritler: Why do you want to change the TC? Did it fail? If yo I'd strongly suggest doing an overhaul of the tranny. (And add some better parts while you are at it)
The TC lockup clutch is the first thing to fail if your tranny has internal leaks or other problems. The burnt up material is going through the tranny and can do other damage that you don't notice at first because the lockup clutch is already slipping.
With a new TC and a shift kit the problems aren't gone in some cases.

I'd call Sun Coast and put a Pro Loc in. Great Products, tons of knowledge (longest standing shop of all mentioned as far as I know) and the service to back it up.

 

I had and ATS triplelock, now a DTT 89%. The DTT is much better at getting the power into the tranny.

A valvebody would be a good thing at the same time as the TC.

 

And to add to David, I don' think you ever see a SC convertor blow into a bunch of pieces. It won't happenn.
