Super B special....first impression

Took my truck for a ride today & got to test this Special. At 1400rpm, The gauge starts moving & about 1600 it takes off fast. I hit 62psi on a hard run & highest egts I saw was 1240*, but I wasn't in it very long. I was actually very surprised how well this turbo performs, but I do have one complaint. This thing barks every time I get out of the fuel. I tried lifting lightly & that did not help at all.

If been hoping for a post like this from you. So hows it compare to the ole 62/71/14? Run cooler? How much later does it spool? I'm really interested in how it tows, if it's reasonable.

Good timing btw, I'm planning on buying a turbo this week. 64/71/14's are hard to beat for 1500 shipped with a DP.

Wow. Thats the total opposite from what I saw on my '01 5-speed, exept the barking.

My truck had the HTT 64/13/71, mach 4's, juice/att., smarty.

Couldn't tow anything over 10k. Could easily touch 1300* EMPTY, just pulling a hill, going 60 in 5th.

Tried every setting combo between the juice/att. and smarty I could, even stock. Still couldn't tow.

My wastegate was set at 55psi. Hope mine was just a fluke of bad luck or something and yours is just that much better. Good luck.

I really need more seat time to give honest feedback. The 62/71/14 was awesome! It spooled at 1300rpm & hit peak boost fast. This one is about 100rpm slower, but runs alot cooler on top end.

I had the Dana 80 with 3.54. Could have played a role. The one time I did tow with it over 10k, it was 4th and 2500rpms to keep things even remotly cool.

I don't want to sound too harsh towards the 64. My truck was never intended to be a tow rig. The 64 made great power and was very streetable. I just didn't think it would render it so useless towing.

The best I ever got was 568hp with the edge on 4-4 and the smarty on 5, it tapped 1600* before settling at about 1500* at the end of the run.

Those 3.54 would make a big difference for sure. I'll know more after I get some seat time, but so far I like it.

I just got the special on my truck and it sucks for the first 3 gears, But once i'm in 4th or 5th its pretty awesome. EGTs are 1200- 1250. Saw it hit a little over 1300 pullin a hill at 170kph. I find it spools increadbly slow. But all i'm runnin for electronics in an edge EZ So my experence doesn't really count. Soon as the tax return gets here i'm getting a smarty, then I'll have an fair opinion of what the turbo can do.

A ez is probably more than enough to spool the turbo with a Hot Rod pump. What injectors are you running?

62 psi on a special? I would not have thought it possible to override the wastegate that much! But you do have a lot of fuel.
With that much 'super heated' air I suspect egt's would be much higher , if you stayed into it?
Does it bark if you keep it around 50 psi? May need some BOV's.

When I had a hole in my wastegate line and my wastegate wasnt moving at all, it acted similar. Had to let off very slowly or it would bark.

I need more seat time to be sure. I got that reading from the Pulse when I got home. I was running ADR PL10, Smarty sw4. I didn't stay in the fuel long at all, just trying to make sure the bugs were blown out. It may have just spiked 62psi? I'm getting ready to take a ride to my friends house soon, more seat time will help.
