Steering Stabilizer
Steering Stabilizer
Hello All,

Well I bent my stock steering stabilizer yesterday bashing a snow drift (got stuck too, only took me an hour to dig it out). My question is should I replace it with a stock one, an aftermarket one or just forget about it. When I was wrenching on jeeps, we didn't put them on if you had power steering. Anybody else have any experience with leaving off the stabilizer? I like how the wheel feels without and I'm thinking that the power steering will last longer without having to work against the stabilizer.
TIA,
Bruce
Re:Steering Stabilizer
The way I have heard it, the stock stablizer is junk anyway. The PS pump is not working much harder with the stabilizer on it. Pull it off for a few days and see how you like the drive. I'm betting you'll put one back on. I feel like it will help the other steering components to last a little longer, at least those above the stablizer, depending on how rough the terrain is.
I went from 245/75's to 305/70's and know how bad the stock steering stabilizer is. I have a lot of bump steer now. I am looking into getting a dual stablizer.
Anyone have any recommendations on dual stabilizers?

Chris
Re:Steering Stabilizer
I'm curious about the Quad Shocks for steering stabilizers.

I've seen a Blazer, runnong 38's and he had four stabilizers on the steering gear of his truck. Overkill? Cure for Death Wobble when running hard to balance oversized tires?

Opinions?
Re:Steering Stabilizer
We were about 12 miles south of Kremmling and up at 11,000 feet. There was still 3-4' drifts in the shade and unfortunately the trail was in the shade :'(. The experience also demonstrated the lack of traction afforded by the stock Michelins. I'll have to look into something more agressive when they wear out.
Bruce
