Raced a friend today that just had a juice box installed on his stock D-Max. Beat me by at least four truck lengths we race probably just short of a 1/4. Fast truck for only one add on! Thankfully no betting took place just a little crow was had. Definatley need injectors, I'm thinking 125 horse, is anybody running a comp box with injectors and a stock turbo, how bad are egt's?

 

My 35 is stock for now, till late spring or summer. No significant problems with egt's other than my boot ordeal last week. I am also running the comp box. Going to upgrade that to comp drag shortly.

 

I'm guessing his was the auto? Those suckers are fast. If you had an auto, it probably would have been a different story.

 

I have a 02 dodge 4X4 3/4 with a comp box and BD XXX injectors. The egt will get up there if your run WOT. The truck will take it as long as you dont operate like that too long. I have seen 1200-1300 deg F for short bursts. Everything still works. I also have a 4in exhaust with the HY-35 turbo (stock). I can pull about 32 psi of boost at WOT. It has made nearly 400rwhp. Pulling with the stock turbo you run fairly high egt's. I plan to change the turbo soon.

 

Yep... He has an auto I'm slinging a stick that's where he got me. I know the XXX injectors are 90 hp but the injectors I'm looking at are 125 horse rwhp, can I run those without the upgrade to the turbo, for a while. More smoke what #'s would you run in a long drag for egt's?

 

You've got the HX35 turbo on yours with a slightly bigger housing than the HY. I highly suggest getting a Scotty 2 air unit to help control EGT's. The 125's are gonna create a lot of heat.

I ran a comp and DD2's (80hp) for a while on a stock turbo. It would get beyond 1500 degrees in the 1/4. If you get 125hp injectors, i think you definitely have to upgrade your turbo, if you want to use your new power and have "acceptable" egt's.

Oops. Just saw you have a stick... = HX35, not HY like i had. That may give you a little more flexibility, but i think you're still going to need a new turbo to use that extra power.

 

I'm definately going to get a turbo, but I am hoping I can run the injectors for a while first to cut down on big cash spending. I am looking at the scotty II but I want to decide on what and which turbo(s) i will run I may run the stock turbo with somthing else as a twin set up?

 

What's your ultimate goal in power? 350, 450? More? I'd say with a 125 injector and a fueling box (Edge Comp or simliar), an HX-40 or possibly a KSB1 would be a good single turbo. Those would provide you with really nice spool up and manageable EGT's.

 

I'm looking at at least 400 rwhp to 450. However I don't run 5x5 all the time I'm thinking a set of 125 or so injectors with the compbox on say 3x3 should be fairly safe if I use my head and watch the gauge....no?

 

I wouldn't be afraid to run the higher HP injectors with your stock turbo. Just watch the pyro. I can get the heat up there but its only for a short time. Puller can get over 2000 deg F, their engines last, just the heads need a little work (seals, valves). I know a guy that run 1200-1300 all the time on a 12v. Its still running. If its just short burst, I would believe that your ok. Buy the injectors, then the turbo. I plan to run my current injectors with my new turbo then upgrade to a similar injector to the one your looking at. I hardly ever run 5X5 as my injection starts to run out of fuel pretty fast. My lift pump is on its last leg again.

 

look at my sig! gets hot real real fast!! on wot runs. turbo time!

 

I have found that to shift the 6spd quicker (at least in my case anyways)when up against an auto truck is to shift 2-4-6 missing 3 and 5 altogether. Makes a big difference!!

You'll be fine.

Dial in about 36PSI boost.

I ran 180HP injectors and my COMP on 5x5 everyday for about 4-5 weeks and saw some EGT. Just don't overspeed your turbo and you'll be to a new tune of HP.

An HX-40/16 (modified of course) would work well in that setup. (Nice value, but medium spool-up)

I was very suprised at the boost I've gotten with the EZ comp. I was running 28 with the old VanAaken box. Running 30 with the EZ comp wire not pierced. With the wire pierced my 35 psi gauge pegs out in a heart beat. My temps get up to 900 degs in the quarter run (Post turbo so that would be 1300) My question now is will the stock turbo hold up to mild runs. I don't dog it all the time, a lot, but not all the time.
