SNOW TIRES?????
SNOW TIRES?????
I stopped by a tire dealer today to find out what he had for snow tires, and he has nothing and no idea what's out there. He said I'm the third '03 Dodge guy to come in. Does anyone know who's making a 265/70/17 snow tire for these things? I don't want to buy them from my dealer, bless their hearts, for the obvious reason ($). Actually I don't even know if they have anything. I'm sure I'm not the only guy looking for them, but didn't find anything in the threads. Thanks, Bryan

(If you don't want to go to their site, the answer is "sorry, but no"
. Thanks for the tip though. I'm going to do some more searching tonight, I'll report if I find anything.

Re:SNOW TIRES?????
Not trying to start a fight here, but I am curious why you need snow tires? I gave up buying snow tires about 20 years ago when I discovered that they really do nothing for me. I found that I could go anywhere on my all season tires that the snow tires would go. Even have done snow ploughing with all seasons with no problem. I just adjusted my driving to suit the conditions and with my all seasons and two wheel drive drove around all the dummies stuck in the snow and ice spinning their wheels. Have towed many folks out stuck in the snow with my two wheel drive car and all season tires.

Hey Mexstan, thanks for the set up, so here goes:
I GUESS YOU MUST LIVE IN NORTHERN MEXICO ;D
But seriously folks, the Michelins on my '03 are really not all seasons for around here, they can't even hack a little mud without greasing up, and I've driven enough winters to know that these things won't do the job. The roads around here, not to mention the driveways and jobsites, can get pretty bad. We had over ten feet of snow last year and the forecast looks even worse for this year. I wouldnt think of driving without snows.

Re:SNOW TIRES?????
Actually I live in south side of central Mexico.
Snow tires can help, and I will not argue that point. Just for me, even when I lived in a climate with snow ploughed almost up to the phone wires, they did not give me much of an advantage. My Michelin tires in those conditions were really slippery and I changed them to Uniroyal all seasons. Then later went to Yokahama. They were the best.

Re:SNOW TIRES?????
I've done the same thing before. Actually I ran all seasons on both my '89 Ranger and my '81 F250, but they were aggressive and had pretty open tread. Last year I had studs on the rear on my old chevy; nice on hard pack and ice but I won't do it again. With all the northern trucks out there though (03's and 04's), I'm surprised this hasn't been posted before.
Re:SNOW TIRES?????
Tarpilot,
Knowing your from Vermont, I know you don't need snow tires. When I use to ski up there, the locals use to drive circles around us while it was snowing. What I mean by this is, we would be driving up the side of a mountain and having trouble making it up, and a local would just zip around us like we were sitting still. Well, sometimes we were sitting still.
If nothing else, I now know what the secret is for driving in VT.

Re:SNOW TIRES?????
If it's aggressive enough it would probably be ok, any suggestions Dan?
It's not just the snow by the way, it's the terrain. Not that I live in the Himalayas, it's just twisty and hilly and did I mention BLACK ICE? My wife went off the road last year with our two little ones after a 360 going downhill in an AWD Subaru (VT state car). My three year old daughter thought it was fun.
I didn't see my roadbed from November till April last year, at which point it promptly turned to 16" of mud. Guess who were the only two driving it then? Me and my neighbor with his 01 Ram. Everyone else walked in. No joke.
