smoked cab lights
my truck is leakin water through my cab lights. ive always wanted smoked ones so i figure if im gonna mess with sealing the old ones might as well just do the smoked while im at it. wonderin where the best place to buy em for my 01 is? thanks
I bought mine through a dealer on ebay they are recon brand. just remember to hard wire them. most brands are crappy plug in style weak connection. but my recons have been on now almost a year now.
I just used a can of VHT nightshades. Scuff them and shoot 2-3 coats on them. $12.00 for a can.
I had bought the Recons and to wire them was stupid. Anyways, I have heard NOTHING but bad about the recons burning out.

I heard alot of bad also about them and got mine cheap. hard wiring them was easy and so far havent burnt out. knock on wood. but I did like that my set came with a far better and stronger gasket than moper oem style. that was a plus

ok this is my problem now!! i want the sweet look but i gotta get mine sealed cause it leaks too!! wats the best way to seal these things??
I dont have the same problem as you with my recon. but the prior oem set I did. I took off the old set traced the oem style gasket with cork gasket put a light spread of clear silicone between the cork and oem gasket and put a small dab of silicone around the roof holes. I also used rubber small 0-rings under the screw heads. also make sure you dont have a cracked lens. may not seem cracked until you tighten them down. later on year later or so when I replaced the oems with the recons. my little cork tricked seemed to work they just needed a plastic flat edge to peel off. my 2 cents. good luck
I did the same with my cab lights..Used the VHT spray on tint and amber bulbs...Looks good...
I don't have those lights on my truck, But I have done what dieselwrks had done on other lights such as campers and motorhomes.
I have also used a very light coat of clear RTV on lens themselves. A real light coat is not hard to pull the lens off if you need bulbs but it sure stops a source of water getting into the fixture and then the cab. I just but a light bead on the bottom of the lens and pressed them on, then screwed them in. I also put a light bead on the screws themselves.
Don't drive around until the stuff is stiff. It will attract dirt/ dust while pliable while drying. Once dried it is not a concern.
