Smoke Switch & No Chip?
Smoke Switch & No Chip?
O1 Cummins auto, If I put a smoke switch on it with no chip will it still wake the truck up any? I see it like this, more smoke = more power once the turbo gets caught up.
What'll happen?
What'll happen?
And the fact that heavy smoke generally comes with a delay in turbo response on the bottom end, how does that figure into your theory?
I'm basing my knowledge off of my 91. I had many performance dealers try to tell me that taking out the fuel pin does nothing for performance, I call BS cause I can feel it driving it. It may take a while for the smoke to clean up but once it does you're hooked up and hauling. It worked good for me and from the research I've done seems that the smoke switch type deal is pretty close to that type of a modification. I should have known better than to post a question and expect a answer to the question, not a bunch of nay sayers.
I'm having a tough time understanding how it's bad on the map sensor, as it bypasses it via the switch? I'm a little slow on computer controls but I would figure that bypassing it should have no harm on the sensor it's self, if anything I'm concerned I may be Edit with the ECM it's self by sending a full 5V to it when ever the switch is on...

if your 91 ran better without a fuel pin it must be a turd. proper fuel delivery is key to getting the turbo to light and start making power as soon as possible.
sounds like youre going to do it (switch) anyway, so just do it and tell us how it works.

Like I said, heavy fueling will delay turbo response. Means a lower torque curve. So how does that make the truck run any better? How about tuning it to run properly instead of bypassing the sensors meant to make it run? Its not a 12v, theres no free power with asinine modifications.

yes very much nay sayer. my vote dont do it to your 24v. I dont see anyone on hear brag about power or anything good performance wise with a smoke switch.. most that I have seen do it because they think belching a bunch of black smoke is cool...... after all you did post on here to question what you were doing for feedback
according to your signature you have a stock truck.. have u upgraded your fuel system with a better fuel pump yet... do you have gauges at least on your truck.. so atleast you can see how hot your smoke switch will get.
That's what I was after, and not what I got. Truck has had a BD lift pump for so long I forgot to put it in my signature originally. Put the switch on and it's nothing to write home about at all. I was looking for just that some free power like in my 12 valve. All I got was a little puff of smoke starting off the line and it actually runs better with out the switch on. If you leave it on too long it'll throw a code too.
