True when you think about it. If you can actually burn the fuel your dumping out of the tailpipe think of the power gains you will get. not saying my truck dosent smoke or anything
Gee, I guess Kent Crowder, Chris Watson, Keating Shelly, Darren Morrison, Maddog, Fletcher, Garmon, Stuckey and TS must be pretty inefficient then.

I hope you are just trying to cause a stir (which I'm sure you are)....because for most of us that drive our trucks on the street, and then go racing/pulling/dynoing, smoke really is power we don't/can't use!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...Smoke is bad Sometimes I'm all for a big puff on spoolup, but after that, it's not doing anyone any good

Just bear in mind - most of those people who watch the clouds of coal roll out of some diesel trucks or, worse yet, get smoked out can VOTE, call their congressman or the state EPA, etc. Then we wonder why the government seems to be picking on diesels.....

Smoke has its time and place, use it wisely or don't use it at all.

Those trucks you mentioned are very inefficient - but that's what the crowds want to - pay to - see.

Watch a guy with a finely tuned truck full-pull the sled with no smoke, or bust a move on the tree smokeless, and note the crowd's reaction.

They're just providing a show - high EGT's and all.

Hey, I don't 'save soot' just for cyclists, just the ones that think they OWN the road. If I have room, I'll move over; I by no means pass them within inches or put their lives at risk, it ain't worth risking someone's life. Now, when I'm loaded, on a narrow two lane, on-coming traffic, uphill, and I have to slow down and shift gears and wait for a chance to pass at 20 mph, you can beat I'm gonna be mad. If there ain't room, they should have chosen a route that provides ample room for us to "co-exist". They don't belong between the yellow and white lines IMO. It is funny 'round here, the west bound lane has a HUGE shoulder to ride on, the east bound lane, no shoulder at all, and some STILL us the east bound side. Plain ignorant! Any way, sorry to type so much, just letting you know I'm not a complete horse's-rear, just half a cheek!

Sorry to hijack the thread!

In my opinion to have big power you will have to have some smoke. Not exactly a solar eclipse, but everything I have ever seen pull good has at least smoked a little. Especially if it was a 12 valve. Mine pours the smoke until the turbo lights, and then it barely hazes.

i laugh every time someone whines about people who don't like smoke voting ...

diesel use has steadily increased in pickups since the cummins came out in dodges in '89 ...

i don't care what some internet expert thinks about smoking

i have spoken with hundreds of folks ... local police included who have asked me to roll some smoke ...

i have yet to meet anyone who didn't like it ...

diesels are a 5k$ option and they can't build 'em quick enough ...

i'll speak slowly so all the easily offended "you make me look bad when you smoke" crybabies can keep up

smoke 'em if you got 'em

Are you serious? It is not all that popular with the general public. I have had people ask me what was wrong with my truck, and it didn't take much smoke for them to ask.

And those factory diesels you mentioned being so popular aren't smoking. It's the mods we do that make them smoke.

No, mindless smoking. I can lay a huge cloud. But in daily driving I try to keep it to a minimum. That's my point. Smoke is not bad. Constant smoke does our image no good.

I have fuel plate and multiple mods to my truck - so it will pull the load thru hill country without wearing out the clutch pedal bushings and shift lever mechanism(s).

And occasionally I like to watch the left front fender abruptly rise and fall thru the gears - sorta like driving the old hemi-cuda, but I can do it six ( count 'em - 6 ! ) times in a row, no sweat, GI.

And, for an over-8000lb dually with 60% f\r weight bias, that's the real pleasure of the mods - imo, of course.............
