Smarty and such question?

well, i'm thinking real long and hard about getting a smarty not only for the performance but for the code scanner too. my first question is, how is the smarty all BY ITSELF? i'm saying if i took my ez off and then just have the smarty, will it be better? and second, could i, would i, and should i stack it with my ez? i know my stock trans is volunerable so i know i'd have to keep the smarty set low or vice versa. so what ya think, will it be worth it? should i or shouldn't i buy one? and so on and so forth...

I don't think an EZ-smarty stack would make any more hp than 1 or another alone as neither 1 taps the pump wire. I also assume peak power is the same on both but the smarty may make a flatter curve on dyno due to it fueling more on the low end.

the smarty is great by itself. and i would keep the ez to stack just to see if you like the stack. Try it stacked, then take the ez off and see which one you like better. But yes, the smarty is deffently better than the ez!

i also think the smarty would be better because of the more options it has don't ya think? and also i need to be sold on why a smarty is better than any other programer? and linetrash, i see what your saying, but i would like the other options and the code reader and so on and so forth things that the smarty offers and i'd hope to upgrade to a comp someday rather than the ez

i put my smarty on dads truck (it has an edge ez) and there was MINIMAL difference. Was bearly noticable and no where near the extra 600 bucks! so i dont think the stack will be that impressive, but the smarty will outshine the ez

The smarty is more fun to drive then the EZ. It fuels harder down low. It feels like driving a gas vehicle. There are more options with the smarty.

If you go with a smarty take the EZ off. I tried that stack on the dyno and produced 3 more HP over just the Smarty by itself. If you run the smarty with the EZ you have to run on the lower settings too because the top end somehow suffers on the higher settings on the smarty. I like the smarty and have done testing and towing and everthing with it, but in the end I sold it to get a wire tapping box. The Smarty has awesome low end power and gets a load moving quicker than any of the 65HP boxes out there, but with the extra pressure on the low end is harder on the drivetrain. If I were not wanting to tap the pump wire to get more power, I probably would have stayed with the Smarty. Just my 2 cents worth.

I replaced an older Quadzilla box (rebadged Bully Dog, roughly equivalent to the EZ) with the Smarty. The Quadzilla box did make a difference compared to stock, but not until somewhere around 1800 rpm or so, where it hit pretty hard. I understand the EZ may come on a bit lower than that, but not much.

With the Smarty, the difference is noticeable at every rpm. Hard to describe, but it's much better to drive with the Smarty. Since I'm not using a timing box stacked with it, I've only run odd-numbered programs, 9 in cool weather, 7 in warmer weather. The truck is quieter with the Smarty than with the Quadzilla, as well. Much less timing clatter at idle and low rpm.

In terms of engine performance enhancements, aside from the Scotty Air 2 intake, my truck is completely stock. I have my eye on a set of Mach 1.6 or Mach 2 injectors, but I've had pretty limited time for truck mods for the last year or so and just don't need another unfinished project sitting on my shelf.

only you can decide how your tranny is going to last.
i run the smarty with jammer stage 3's an have no problems, but im careful. i dont try and slip the TC, like flooring it from dead stops.
i ve heard of a lot less killing trannys, its all in the person's foot!
how do you drive?
good luck!

I had an EZ and now just the Smarty (never stacked them), and those are the only perf. mods I've had.

Smarty #9 makes the EZ feel like a stock engine. "Feel" is important as I don't think the Smarty gives you much more (if any) HP than the EZ, but makes a stock truck feel like a beast, comparatively. Much more so than the EZ.

My first impression of the EZ on my stock truck was "Wow!". My first impression of Smarty #9 was "Oh Edit!!"

I usually run with Smarty #5 or #3, and I never see over 2500 rpm, so I'm a bit of a wimp, so take that into account.

I love my truck again since I bought a Smarty!

I have had mine on #9 since I got it about a month ago. Funny thing is how fast we forget... I went out a few evenings ago and set the ECM back to Stock with the Smarty and went for a ride. WOW! How did I ever drive the truck like that??? I pulled over after about 4 miles and put it back to #9 again.

If you have had one for a while, take it back to stock to see just how big of a difference the Smarty makes.

With out a doubt, the Smarty is the best thing I have ever bought for my truck.
