Which Smarty level is the best to tow with.

I have a 2001 3500 6 speed. It has a S03 smarty on it, a FASS 150, 5inch exhaust,S300 turbo. What is the best level to tow with on the smarty. I tow around 15000-18000lbs with the truck. Which level would anyone suggest to run with for best performance.

I still run the old non-REVO software (no means to upgrade it).

I use software #3 for everything. For towing heavy like that, I would consider a non-timing software (the even numbers).

Software #2 is like #3, but has no added timing. #4 would also be without extra timing, but has a little more aggressive fueling response.

So I would do either #2 or #4.

This is a trick question... every truck is different.

To answer this: When I tow heavy, I watch my gauges, and my SOTP (seat of the pants) dyno... if the gauges (EGT, Boost, Tranny temp) are telling me that I've added too much, then I back it down a notch.

For example, I was towing 18k with MY setup, and lvl 3 was too aggressive... I had to take it down to 1. HTH...

Hat, your HPCR truck responds VERY different to its Smarty model than do the VP44 trucks like mine and the OPs.

I tow 10K a good portion of my time and have no problems running setting #3. Your towing 50% more weight than me but I don't think you would have a problem with #3 either.

Of course you always drive by the EGT's when running heavy anyways so you adjust according with your right foot.

I have played between level 2 and 3 and yes there is no timing on 2 but I find better towing power on 3.

I use #1 for driving around town and #3 for towing. I like the extra kick and it seems to get better mpg towing.

Yeah, but I would assume that the concept is the same. Don't melt it down...

The beauty of the Smarty is that you can try them all and see which one you like best.

In reality, you can tow on any setting you want, you just have to drive it accordingly.

Myself, I'm not in that much of a rush to burn my truck up so I just drive regardless by the EGT's by watching the pyro. Secondly, I always have the "RPM's are your friend" mentality when I'm pulling hills.........Sure I can pull the hill in 6th gear but 5th is probably better, a few more rpm's and a little more air flow.

Haven't cooked it yet in over 200,000 miles so it must work. I run both a pre and post pyro in my truck and it is sometimes insane the amount of difference between the two pulling some hills with just a slight variation in throttle.

With straight H2O injection and S300, Smarty on #3 should not get too hot.
As mentioned, Keep rpm's up and watch your Pyro!
