Slight surging/loping with Edge EZ

I've done a search but don't think anyone has questioned this before.

I recently put a "used" Edge EZ on my 02 HO. Truck runs great except for one little hiccup. I get about a 50-60 rpm surge/lope at around 1600 rpm until the truck gets hot then it seems to go away. Sounds like an extra valve rattle.
Keep in mind this is May and it's happening in 70 degree weather. Not really a "cold" engine

Has anyone else experienced this? Will it ruin anything? Why does the box cause this?

I know MANY people that removed the Edge from their 2nd gen 24 valves because of that issue....

What causes it? Will it hurt anything?

No problems?......as in, your truck has the loping but it hasn't been a concern or your truck runs smooth through the rpms?

I would like to know if my box is bad or this is normal on a VP truck. If it's junk, I'll yank it off and throw it out. It was used. I bought for a good price.

Right now I'm leaning toward a bad tuner

After driving the truck daily for a few days, I'm not sure what I'm hearing now. This is so slight you can hear it and feel it a little in the pedal, but it definitely doesn't make truck jerk or nothing. Just enough that you can watch the tach twitch. A half-mile down the road and it's perfectly fine.

I had some of this noise in stock trim going down the hi-way. Around 1900-2000 with the cruise set it would rev up and down slightly to maintain speed. Kinda like a whaaaa-whaaaa sound. It seems that the Edge moved it to a different spot in the rpm range. Someone has had to hear the same thing on their trucks.

I hate to yank that box. It really woke up the truck and makes it much more enjoyable to drive.

Automatic transmission? Maybe the torque converter locking/unlocking?

Same thing happened to a buddys 02..the Edge Ez worked great for years then it started that surging stuff. He used it by itself, stacked it with a Smarty and it ran great both ways until one day the surging started. He unplugged the Edge and the surging stopped and hasn't come back in 5 years.

If you do a search of the forum here you will find several others that had the same issue, I believe I recall that sending the unit back to Edge was the only way to fix it but it has been awhile since I read those threads.

Call Edge they should be aware of the issue.

Edge won't talk to me because it's a used unit. I don't blame them.
I pulled it yesterday and dropped it in the trash. I can't risk trashing a $1000 VP.

It's a shame. I thought Edge was a premier company. 10 yrs ago that's what everybody ran on their 24v. I guess times have changed.

I would have tried it on my truck if you wanted me to see if it did the same thing. Any chance you can get it out of the trash?
Seems like kind of a waste to throw it away.

Update

Well since my last post, someone from Edge did contact me, on Monday. I was honest and told him I bought used. They were very helpful. He thinks that something happened to the circuit board since it was temperature related.

They offered me a new EZ at an excellent price. (sorry I won't post online). I just needed to send them the old one. I quickly got the old one out of the trash can in the garage and sent it out. I also discovered I was at least the 3rd owner of that box. Hmm interesting.

I can't wait to try the new one.
