single or triple
i have been told that a well built single disk TC will hold just fine with 350-400 hp what do you guys think i'm going to build my trans (dave goreads in Iowa (I butchered name))and really dont want to spend the money for a triple if a cheaper well built single would be fine.
DTT's converters are unique, so what works for them may not work as well on Goerands set up. By that I mean it depends on what brand of single disk converter he uses.
I would ask Dave that question. From my one 30 min. conversation with him, I believe he will shoot straight and not try to oversell you.

i've also talked to dave and rjohnson is right dave will soot you straight..... i'm planning on getting a trippledisc with the 10/20 stator.... dave said it'll be a bit tight but will HOLD UP.... also i like his LIFETIME warranty on converters and valvebodies..... not to mention the 100,000 warranty on his transmissions......
well takled to dave and this is what he said
Hi Kyle
we have run single disc converters past 500 hp with no problem as long as you are not pulling heavy we like the triple when you are pulling because you would not be at full throttle while pulling and the extra plates in the converter insure no slip I can set the pressure a little higher for the single disc when you are racing or sled pulling you will be at wide open throttle anyway so there will be plenty of pressure for the converter clutch
cost of the trans with a single is 2450 warranty on the trans is still 100,000 miles and the warranty on the single is also 100,000
thanks again
Dave
so i think i might just go with the single and put the saved money toward a billet servo and input shaft

I just had my whole trans rebuilt by Tim Barber (Timinva). Tim did a fantastic job (shameless plug for Tim). I arrived at his shop at 3:30, he had the trans rebuildt and back in the truck pressure testing before midnight! Boy! did I learn a lot about transmissions.
I had a shift kit in my stock trans with a what's in my sig. Everything in the stock trans was in good shape except the apply band, started to turn a little brown.
Depending which trans builder you talk to, you will get different opinion/options with regards to rebuilding your trans.
From what I understand with triple disks systems they require the converter to do most of the heavy lifting, get into lockup quick and let the converters big clutch area do the job.
A single disk system uses tighter fluid coupling and high line pressure to the same job.
Which is better? Anyone one who has been on here long enough knows that question will never be answered. Go with what makes the most sense to you.
I would try to drive a truck with a triple and a single. See which one trips your trigger.
I have a single disk and love it, going from a stock converter it very apparent as to why people rave about aftermarket transmissions/converters.

Im loving my single disc from Dave, and you couldnt deal with a more honest guy.
I havent pulled anything heavy with mine yet, but that converter is TIGHT! Its as quick without locking the converter now, as it was before with the converter locked. I notice the slower spoolup of the bigger housing a lot more now, but i can live with it at least till i go back to a 12cm housing. Now when i pull I accelerate with the RPM's instead of the tach sitting at 2700rpm's, and the tranny catching up, now it is waiting for the motor to pull on up
I really love it so far. Shifts firm. I do think i need to replace some clutches though in my tranny, and possibly more line pressure.

yeah i would be having the whole trans built by him so i just need to think about what tC i want but i think i'm leaning toward the single then i can put the money toward a bilet servo and input shaft
save a little to spend more God what fun
