Silencer ring?????
Silencer ring?????
I heard a bunch of people say they have their silencer ring removed. Being a rookie at the diesel craze.....
1. Where is it located on a 02 CTD?
2. What does it do? and most important...
3. What does removing it help?
DY....And I thought working on a race car got confusing!

Removing it doesn't help a thing, I've even heard it could HURT Horse Power. (Not Dyno proven to my knowledge though)
It quites the turbo noise in the Cab, ans supposedly smoothes the incomming air.
It is located on the inlet side of the Turbo, it's a round disc held in by a snap ring looking thing.
I have mine removed, it makes the turbo sound better...............
Remove the black tube to the Turbo, use a pair of needlenose and small straight slot screwdriver to pop ou the clip that holds it in.
You may be able to seach the forum for better instructions..........?

.http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/turbo_faq.htm And scrol down to "What is a "silencer ring"
Well then I guess I'm not alone! I'm just looking for some more pulling power, and sounding better. We pull a 26' enclosed race trailer, weights about 10,000lbs. loade, and with the auto, getting it rolling from a stop, takes a while, but I do average about 17 mpg pulling at 70 down the highway.
Thanks again guys!
