silencer ring
Re:silencer ring
Silencer ring quiets down the whistle heard from the turbo. Removal is easy- just pull off the big piece of tubing that goes into the front of the turbo. In the front part of the housing you will see a snap ring encircling the inner cirumfrince of the housing. Use a couple of screw drivers and maybe a pair of needle nose pliers to pry this ring out. Then you will see a round metal ring that will pull right out, that is the silencer. Remove it then put the intake hose back on and you are ready to go. AAHH!!! your first step to blisful bombing! ;D
Re:silencer ring
Removed my silencer ring at the same time I did the first oil change. My friend showed me how it is done so I am passing on the information with some pictures to illustrate.

The written steps mentioned above give the detail needed so just look at the pictures to see what they are talking about.

Hope this helps.
Re:silencer ring
Once the tubing is removed you can see into the front of the turbo and that is where you will find the silencer ring and retainer ring. Keep in mind that in this picture the silencer ring is already removed.

you may have opened a can of worms with the k/n question..... i have the k/n and have no problems with it at all. i also had the chance to switch out to a BHAF hoping to hear the turbo scream more and i noticed no difference. im not saying anyone else is wrong, just telling my experience. im not sure what you are asking about the scotty but i hear the scotty II with the hole cut really livens up the turbo noise. good luck, scott
Ramcamping,
I used the K&N for a few years, didn't like the "Gotta use grease to TRY to get it to seal" game.
K&N is now sitting on the shelf.
Went with a Scotty II......no more problems/worries, as an added plus reduced my EGT by about 50*.
Guys who tow heavy and/or are seriously BOMBed should see greater reductions.
