pull your air intake hose off the turbo and its a thin little ring inside the turbo inlet...held in by a snap ring...its easy to remove

It took me about 10 minutes to remove it on the dually, and all of about 30 seconds to get it off on the 2500. Its really easy to take off .

My HX-35 and my HX-40 came off of a 5.9 in a FL70 and a 8.3 in a IH truck and were never machined with a groove for one. It was only done on Dodge trucks to make it quiet for the people who want it to drive and sound like a car. It makes no performance diff with or without just more noise.

I took mine off for awhile. When Im towing heavy long distances after turning everything up it drove me nuts and I can't hear much anymore!! hmm maybe that had something to do with it, ringing in my ears...........

The primary purpose of the silencer ring is to provide straighter air-flow into the turbo. That's why you get more sound when you remove it, because there's more turbulence. I guess theoretically it should affect your fuel economy a little bit but I don't know... Maybe I should run a test. Only thing is, I lost it in the garage.

I find myself driving with a lighter foot just because the turbo is louder. So I saw an increase of MPG but not because the removal of the ring itself.

The incoming air is allowed to contact the turbine at it's outermost point of diameter. This accounts for the noise.

Remember the first mechanical sirens? Air was allowed to pass thru ports at different distances from the center of a high speed wheel. This accounted for the change in tone from high to low.

Holsets only make a high pitch sound though! Something to do with over 200,000 RPM.

If you drive your truck a lot don't take it out. I took mine out, put on a BHAF, Straight Exhaust, and a Juice with Attitiude and now the turbo makes so much noise you can hardly hear the radio. There is no performance benefit, only the "hey look at me" benefit. Thank god I only drive my truck around the block on weekends!
