Running Lights

Hey quick question for the new one haha. We have those **** yellow running lights on our truck... On top of the cab. We fell in love with the rest of it so we decided we can live with lights. I found some for those chevys and fords. Does anyone know where i can buy clear lenses for them? Thanks
Re:Running Lights

Dont think i've ever seen clear ones for those. Think the law requires them to be yellow. If you dont like them take the bulbs out.

Re:Running Lights

I think DOT only requires amber clearance lights if on a vehicle more than 80" wide (ie a dually)

Re:Running Lights

The inspector here said any lights facing forward have to be amber and any lights facing rear have to be red and it they are on the vehicle, they have to work. Not saying right or wrong, just what he told me.

Re:Running Lights

In addition to what DieselDude4x4 said, in a case where the lights aren't required, if you remove the bulbs, sockets and wiring from them, they don't have to work. I believe those clearance lights fall into that category if you aren't over some X height. I've never been able to justify that sort of thing because I might change my mind one day.
I like mine. Makes the truck seem more "heavy duty".
This is Virginia law though. Check your own state's inspection laws, where applicable.

Chris

Re:Running Lights

DOT regs say that lights in the front are to be white to amber and lights on the rear are to be amber to red. White should be fine for the markers but they must be marked with the SAE approval. Also if the light fixture is on the truck it must work, that includes added lights. Have a couple of tickets in the past for not working additional markers. Bear in mind when reading the law on the lights that the three in the center are identifaction lights and the two on the ends are markers or clearance lights. The law may be somewhat different between the two.

Re:Running Lights

You can put on clear lens on but the bulbs need to admit a amber glow for all forward facing marker and clearance lites...and as the others have said if the lite is on the truck or trailer it must work or you'll get a repair ticket...remember any non-working lite is just a reason for the local law to stop you

There are new LED's commin out every day and when wired properly they last forever...I have them on my trailers and wish I could find some for my trucks...Ive tryed the 1157 style LED replacement bulbs and didnt care for them

Before my windsheild visor cracked and broke loose it had amber LED's across the front which looked kool

Re:Running Lights

pappyman:

I ordered the LED clearance lights and turn lights for my running boards and trailers from www.awdirect.com. The LED's will out last the truck or trailer but they are a bit pricey. My gooseneck use to eat the rear 1157's every week. Got the seven diode bulbs and have never had a problem. THey look cool and take less power and last longer so it is really a long term payoff.

Re:Running Lights

BEING A POLICE OFFICER I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE RESPONSES ABOUT DOT REG'S. PLUS DEPENDING ON STATE LAWS AND LOCAL ORDINANCES SOME OTHER LAWS MAY APPLY. AS FOR CALIFORNIA, ANY LIGHTING DEVICES WHICH WERE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE OEM PACKAGE, CANNOT BE MODIFIED OR ENHANCED (BRIGHTER). THERE ARE WAYS TO ADD LIGHTING TO A VEH AS LONG AS IT IS/CAN BE CONSIDERED PART OF AN OEM PACKAGE (IE: IF YOUR TRUCK DIDNT COME WITH CAB LIGHTS, BUT THEY ARE OFFERED, YOU MAY INSTALL SUCH ITEMS........ THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE VERY RARELY ISSUED A TICKET FOR MODIFIED LIGHTING (ALMOST ALWAYS TO SOME HONDA STREET RACER WHO HAD A BAD ATTITUDE, AND TONS OF NEON AND STROBE LIGHTS) AND IT REMAINS ONE OF THOSE LAWS THAT IS USUALLY NOT ENFORCED AND IN FACT MOST OFFICERS DONT KNOW OR DONT CARE ABOUT THAT SECTION OF THE VEH CODE. THIS IS CALIFORNIA THOUGH!!......... GETTING BACK TO THE RESPONSE, ALL FORWARD FACING LIGHTING SHALL BE WHITE OR AMBER EXCEPT ON EMERGENCY VEH'S, AND ALL LIGHTING FACING THE REAR SHALL BE AMBER OR RED (EXCEPT LICENCE PLATE LAMPS MUST BE WHITE).., BUT ALMOST EVERYWHERE IT'S JUST A FIX-IT TICKET WHICH CAN BE SIGNED OFF.

Re:Running Lights

Yeah I wouldn't worry about the law. I have seen some Fords w/ clear out hd lights and they look good! I would try to get them, but my truck isn't that sporty.
