Remote Starter & Wait to Start

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I could not find it in a search.
I'm putting on a remote strter and need to find a place to tap into the wait to start light.
I guess I could run to the engine, but was hoping to stay at the dash.
Anyboby help ??

Thanks

Re:Remote Starter & Wait to Start

Most times you don't need to tap the wire because u can just delay the start in the alarm for 15 secons,30 seconds,45 seconds etc...

Re:Remote Starter & Wait to Start

This isn't going to answer your question, but here goes. I have a Python remote start on my truck. I know that it was purchased as a unit that was specific to a Dodge diesel. I did not install it, so I can't tell you where it hooks to the harness. I just wanted to make sure you were not trying to use a unit that was not made for a diesel. Mine powers up when I hit the buttons, waits for the "wait to start" light to go out, then starts the truck. Works every time. Maybe see if Python has a website with some wiring info. Good Luck!

Re:Remote Starter & Wait to Start

take your dash off and pull off the panel with the wait to start light in it, tap into the orange wire I think. test it to make sure its the right wire, then cut the wire, install a diode inline with the stripe away from the light, then tap into that wire with your wait to start wire. you should tap into the wire below the diode, or on the stripe side of the wire. hope I didn't confuse ya.

What you need to do is check and see if it has a delay time between 'power-up' and 'start'. Mine waits 15 seconds, then starts the engine. Mine has remote start, keyless entry, auto-start ( every 2 hours for 12 of 24 minutes, for really cold weather), pit stop ( 12 or 24 minute run time, after removing key from ignition). Looking back, I would have gotten one that also has a 3-5 minute 'turbo cool-down' mode.

I would strongly recomend anyone putting in one of these systems to check out the Crime Stopper unit. I installed mine myself last year and love it to death. The best feature is that it has the turbo timer built right into the unit, all you have to do is mount a push button switch of your choice. When I am gettin out of the truck, I step on the brake pedal and bush the button once for every minute i want the truck to run for, take the key out and go. All kinds of theft preventative triggers built into it also.

I tapped the glow plug wire in the engine compartment, easiest in my opinion. Then as soon as the signal to the wait to start goes out it triggers the starter.

We don't have glow plugs, we have a Grid Heater. It's kind of like a big heating element form a toaster that sits in the intake manifold above the engine. It pre-heats the air before it enters the engine. This is what the Wait-To-Start light is monitoring.
