Refresh My Memory On ARP Head Studs

I installed them about a year ago, done like 4 retorques and I think went to 135? Now I am installing Compounds and had the pump built by II so do I need to do another retorque or check the torque or?

do you mark them with indexing paint to verify if they're moving or not?

So do you back them off one by one and retorque or just check them at a certain torque?

its not the nuts moving in relation to the stud, its stretch. indexing them will not show anything here.

are you measuring the stretch? I mean... how often do you re-torque your rod bolts? or your main bolts?

if you torque to spec, they will maintain their stretch indefinately unless the nuts back off... they're rated at like 220,000psi of tension. if you exceede that tension then yes, you will fatigue the metal and stretch it beyond it's elastic point and the fastener will be ruined.

once you crush your fire ring in your head gasket after a few heat cycles/retorques, just index paint the fasteners and save yourself the bi-annual rain dance!

If you are using the regular ARP2000 studs, I would go to 125lb-ft with 30wt oil, or 100lb-ft with ARP lube.

If you are using the Custom Age 625+ studs, you can go a good bit higher-- they have unreal fatigue capability and they are over 260,000psi without being brittle or prone to stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement like H-11 and a lot of other "high strength" steels are.

I'd take a 625+ stud to 125 on ARP lube, 150-160 with 30wt oil.

I have no idea what guys are doing with the 625s, or what the "official" spec is, but that's what I would do.

How do i know which ones I have? They are less then 2 years old and required the pedistals to be machined off.
