Ready For a Smarty??

I just bought the truck a month ago with 115,000 miles. Truck runs great. The first week I put a pressure gauge on it and it read 0, so to get the truck on the road I went to Autozone for a quick fix $175 pump. That afternoon had the truck going with good fuel pressure. VP44 has never been replaced. (The truck has had 1 owner and he kept a detailed service sheet since day 1). Would it be ok to go ahead and add the Smarty or am I taking chances with the original injection pump and cheap lift pump? Truck still drives, starts, idles like new. No complaints at all about the truck, just want more power. (I owned a modded 05 and loved it. I'm addicted again already. Wife is gonna be mad!)

New 01 has injectors and southbend already

I would recommend a exhaust temp gage first, that way you can monitor egt and not melt her down

I second that. I also recommend a boost and 'in cab' fuel pressure gauge.

I don't think you have to worry about melting her down with a Smarty. LOL Still not a bad idea to have one though.

Unhappy

HI guys, I have a 2000 Quad Cab with a 6 spd and am wondering about my fuel pressure. I had some new gauges put on this past weekend (boost, pyro, fuel) and noticed while running easy my pressure is at about 8 psi. When I step on it my readings are down to 3 psi. My only mods are a bhaf and exhaust. The injector pump and lift pump were replaced on warranty a couple of years ago with stock units. Could this be a filter problem or could this stock lift pump be crap?
