Pyro gauge acting strange

AutoMeter ProComp UltraLight Pyrometer very eratic. Up until yesterday was very steady, climbed smoothly and decended the same way.
Now it climbs OK but when it should be leveling out (on highway) it starts going crazy. Climbing no higher than the peak temp. it has already hit but going back down to zero very quickly. Then doing it again. Very quickly.

Any ideas?

Check the power supply wire to the gauge. I had the same problem.

Eratic readings are often a sign of lose connections or bad thermocouple probes. Since checking connections is free, start there.

I had a similar problem w/ my AutoMeter Sport Comp Pyro... sometimes it would just be pointing straight down and not reading at all... I'd give it a whack and it would start working again... Here's the strange thing.. I was going to check the wiring... but, it was time to clean the air filter and re-oil it and after that, I've had no problems with it at all?!

I checked the power connections, both 12v and ground are tight clean connections and I have power and ground right up to the gauge.

What else can I do to without putting down some cash for a new gauge or thermocouple?

p.s. anyone know how long the warranty is on AutoMeter products?

I have the A/M Z series and went wild every time I hit the stop pedal. It took some looking but it wound up being bad grounds. Cleaned them up and have not had a problem since.
