Proper way to block a wastegate

You only NEED to plug the hose coming from the AFC housing if you have the line that runs across the top of the motor.

If your turbo has the line coming from it; just pull the line, and fitting, and put a plug in it; or pull the line, and plug it with a screw, and hose clamp.

Rick: What you did was essentially put your truck in valet mode. Check the pics in my gallery, and look at my homemade valet. You will see what i mean.

so thats what its like? Hmmm i wasnt too sure that id like it, BUT that so called valet and overspooled turbo destroyed my clutch on the dyno... SO.. im not sure how that can serve as a valet... in all honesty..

It was easy to learn to plug my gate, Vaccum line plugs work really well, i bought a pack of them from O reily autoparts as soon as i saw that my posilock one worked well with plugging the steel line to the turbo. I also took my bolt and shoved it in, i clamped both the steel line, and the actual hose and it seemed to work,

BIG difference in spool up on the dyno tho, if u look at my gallery the green line on the dyno run was the most promising by far and the one that destroyed the clutch, but valet? im not seeing how... unless u mean that boost comes on stronger but a little later on than when the gate is active...

Maybe im not hearing you right .... If the line going from your afc to the turbo is unplugged, that is a lot like a valet swich, and you should notice a good drop in power and boost...

correct.....

That i did find out by accident..... BUT if you plug up the gate with the vaccum line plug, and shove a bolt and clamp it shut on the other hose u get hte inverse effect, IE blocked gate, quicker spool, and possible turbo damage from overspooling..

Now if you just unplug it and leave it there, yes u will notice a drop in power and boost....

Make the rod shorter. That holds the wastegate closed tighter and more pressure is needed to move the diaphragm.

So you can damage the turbo pretty easily with it plugged? I've been riding around like that for a week or so, sure is fun, but I have wondered if it's hard on the turbo. Think I'm gonna put a boost elbow on there and try that. Poor truck, I've been launching pretty hard at every stop sign and light, blasting up the on ramps, power braking a little, spinning the tires in the rain, etc. Better take it easy on her and hook the waste gate back up. I really like the big boost though.

Well ill tell u what other UNFOUND

damages i had, i took off my airfilter to clean it this morning, and right at the screw that holds the turbine of the turbo in place there is a huge crack that was not there the day i plugged the gate on the dyno... SO i concluded that overspooling it damaged it.....

With me it never fails.. When it rains in my life IT POURS....

Just ordered an adj. boost elbow off ebay. Gonna hook it up and set it at 28 psi max, that should keep the turbo from dying, I hope. Still plenty of boost. Right? Stock injectors, stock tranny, stock turbo, etc.

A stock Hx35 will live at 40psi no problems for the most part. I know of plenty that have ran 55 and 60psi on them. They are tough little turbo's... A buddy has one with about 200k miles on it that gets pushed to 45psi + every day.
