By plugging it

you simply remove the hose that goes from the AFC housing, stick a 1/4 inch bolt and clamp it shut to plug it right? OR can it be plugged directly at the turbo....

Either place, but IMO its easier at the AFC housing unless you remove the whole line from the afc to the WG.

Depends on which year you are referring to. After '96 there is no line from the AFC to the turbo, the pressure signal to the wastegate comes right off the compressor side of the turbo.
In either case cut the hose and stick a bolt in it. Put a bolt in both sides of the cut hose if you want to keep crud from going into the wastegate actuator.

Timberman, most stock turbos won't exceed safe boost unless you are massively fueled. If blocking the wastegate hose gives you boost in excess of around 36 psi you are better off adjusting the linkage on the wastegate.

That's a big 10-4. I'm heading out to the driveway right now to block the beast's wastegate. Can't wait to try it out.

Edit:
Cut the rubber hose, stuck two stainless 1/4" bolts and hose clamped em off. Ugly, but works. Man, she scoots now. Gonna have to rename the truck "Skint Back". She'll slam the boost gauge right to 28 psi, haven't seen it go higher yet. I zoomed it up to 90 mph three times, the seat of the pants meter says it helped quite a bit. Left a big cloud of black smoke on the gasser chevy I pulled out in front of, must have needed to be blown out. Don't think it smokes much normally. Good Mod, y'all. Thumbs up on that one too.

Hmm

i went out and plugged my gate yesterday... and i was only seeing 25 lbs of boost max, now what i did was take a vaccum plug of 1/8 inch, funny how the Posilock ones that came with my kit work very well for this, and plugged it up at the line and hose clamped it shut,

I left the small hose hooked on the to back of the AFC housing and i didnt plug that one in, Now should i have plugged up both of them to get the full effects of the waste gate block? Other than that i have felt nothing and in WOT the boost gauge still comes down...

AM i missing something fellas? or is slower boost creep above 25 psi to be expected when u plug the gate.. The truck runs better with the gate actually hooked up, even tho i believe my turbo is gated at 35 PSI.....

Ideas? and thank u in advance

Rick

Just unscrew your boost elbow from the bottom of your turbo and replace it with a 1/8" pipe plug. I just left my hose hanging there.

easier said than done

in my truck its a solid line that runs to the wastegate. How my question now is simple, Do i vaccum line plug the steel line that goes to teh wastegate? and leave the hose at the top of the engine that connects to the steel line just hanging there?

Or do i need to remove the hose completely, From the AFC housing as well as the steel line, and plug up BOTH the AFC fitting, and the actual steel hose as well?

eitherways i will try both and see what gives.... (not literally I hope)

Rick

ON EDIT!!

ive got it... OK i just went out to lunch at work and I plugged my gate. I used the vaccum line plug from my posilock kit on the end that goes to the turbo, and i hose clamped that one on there, and on the hose end, i shoved in a 1/4 inch x 2 inch bolt, washer and clamped that sucker down... IN all honesty, i noticed no difference between the turbo being gated and not, Till i got it on the highway at WOT.. The turbo screams long enough, and then all of a sudden where i believe its supposed to gate, it just gets louder and it spools, being that my gauges are inefficient, at a max of 30 psi on the boost... I have chosen not to plug my gate unless of coarse im going to dyno, I will make that decision when i get better gauges in whether or not to plug up the hose or not. I will have pictures of a setup for 94-96 gate plugging instructions for future refrence...

Great mod, just wish i knew how much i got out of it....

I thought the 'proper' way was a mbc? Ok, that doesn't totally block it, but sets it where you want it. Wait till next week and Hohn will have his write up ready =P

Texas007 you do in fact need to plug the line from the AFC housing, my 97' still had the hard line going from the AFC to the turbo, just stick a bolt in both of the rubber lines, the one at the turbo & the one from the AFC housing, & you should be set, Dusty
